Quick Overview

New Formula. Optimal Liposomal Active B12 with L-5-MTHF by Seeking Health provides 5000 mcg of Vitamin B12 (as methylcobalamin), 100 mcg of Folate (as L-5-MTHF) and 200 mg of natural Phosphatidylcholine & Phosphatidylethanolamine complex from non-GMO sunflower. Folate is an essential component to a prenatal nutrition program as it is necessary for fetal development.*

Optimal Liposmal Active B12 with L-5-MTHF is the only Lipsomal Active B12 with L-5-MTHF to use non-hydrogenated phosphatidylcholine for it's delivery method into your system (not hydroxylated, hydrogenated, nor “essential” phospholipids). Studies show hydrogenated liposomes significantly increase bad cholesterol levels while natural non-hydrogenated phosphatidylcholine does not.* This is a non-soy formula.

Product Description

Optimal Liposomal Active B12 with L-5-MTHF is the only Lipsomal Active B12 with L-5-MTHF to use non-hydrogenated phosphatidylcholine for it's delivery method into your system. Optimal Liposomal Active B12 with L-5-MTHF provides 5000 mcg of Vitamin B12 (as methylcobalamin), 100 mcg of Folate (as L-5-MTHF) and 200 mg of natural Phosphatidylcholine & Phosphatidylethanolamine complex from non-GMO sunflower.

Optimal Active B12 with L-5-MTHF consists of pure natural ingredients supplying your body with only what you need, nothing else:

Provides Vitamin B12 as methylcobalmin: Vitamin B12 is crucial to the formation of healthy red blood cells, energy production, nervous system support, cognitive function, and homocysteine regulation. Although cyanocobalamin is the most commonly used form of vitamin B12 in dietary supplements, it must be converted by enzymes into an active coenzyme form to be useful. Nutritional inadequacies, enzyme defects, and tissue abnormalities can reduce the body’s ability to synthesize the active forms of B12. In contrast, vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin is a “body-ready” form with metabolic benefits that may not be provided by other forms of vitamin B12. It appears that methylcobalamin may be particularly useful for individuals with impaired methylation capacity, including those with elevated homocysteine or neurological impairments.

Provides Active form of folate : This B-vitamin is crucial for generating red blood cells, regulating homocysteine metabolism, assisting DNA repair, and supporting neurological processes.* Metafolin®* L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (L-5-MTHF), an active form of folate, is included in this product to help ensure more immediate effects on metabolism compared to folic acid, the form of folate commonly used in fortified foods and supplements.

Liposomes : Liposomes have long been used by nature to deliver life sustaining nutrition via mother’s milk and by pharmaceutical companies to deliver various active ingredients. Active B12 with L-5-MTHF is formulated using natural Phosphatidylcholine Liposomes as a delivery method into your system. Current literature has shown that hydrogenated liposomes strongly increase LDL (bad) cholesterol levels while natural non-hydrogenated phosphatidylcholine was shown not to alter cholesterol levels in primates.*

  • All natural ingredients.
  • Uniform liposomes at 150 nm particle size.
  • 30 doses per bottle.
  • Scientifically studied structure.

    • Hi,

What are the "natural" flavors made of? I know it says fruit flavors, but unless it's simply "raspberries" or "blueberries" it can be a problem for folks with allergy issues so I am wondering :)

      Thanks,
      evy

    • Hi Evy -

      The flavors are fruit extracts.

  • Optimal Liposomal Active B1211/10/12 10:34 AM
    • I have a 1298AC Allele polymorphism. I understand that it is not wise to take 'two much' folate", so have kept to 800 mcg. It looks like 20 drops would be 50 mcg folate, 500 mcg hydroxycobalamine, and 100mgs phoschol.so I would need to use 320 drops a day to get 800 mcg folate. Is that correct? Possibly your other pill form of methyl donors plus folate would be a better price point.. .
    • Hello -

It is not wise to for anyone to take excessive nutrients unless they are needed.

The liposomal B12 uses methylcobalamin vs hydroxocobalamin.

I typically suggest people consider the Active B12 Lozenge with L-5-MTHF first. Start at the amount recommended by your doctor and work up.

The liposomal form of B12 here is really recommended for those with B12 carrier deficiencies or low in B12. It is not recommended to increase levels of L-5-MTHF.

  • Phosphatidylcholine11/14/12 11:59 AM
    • How is the phosphatidylcholine in this product derived or where does it come from? I have this supplement, and it tastes better than some other liposomals I've had. Perhaps the taste is different because the phosphatidylcholine is non-hydrogenated.
    • Hello -

We use pure phosphatidylcholine that has a very neutral taste.  Other brands use lecithin which is a mixture of materials that are much cheaper and do not taste very good; also we do not use hydrogenated material.  The phosphatidylcholine is pure and is tested for soy and GMO (negative for both). I assume that it did originate from soy, but it is so pure that all of the other material has been purified out.

  • Soy11/14/12 1:03 PM
    • The product page specifies no soy.

"Does not contain Inulin or FOS, Streptococcus, Casein, Corn, Dairy, Egg, Fish, Gluten, Peanuts, Shellfish, Soy, Tree Nuts, Wheat"

But you've just said above the phosphatidylcholine comes from non-GMO soy. I feel that that means the product does contain soy (even if only a derivative).
    • Phosphatidylcholine is a fat which is commonly derived from soy.

The problematic aspects to foods is from the proteins. There are no traces of soy protein in any of our liposomal products.

We are working on trying another source of phosphatidylcholine which is derived from sunflower seeds; however, the taste is pretty intense and I feel may not appeal to many people at all.

  • Safe for teen?12/9/12 5:12 PM
    • Is this product safe for teens? Specifically a 15 year old female teenager? Can it possibly help for depression in female teens. What are the risks involved for teens and what are the potential benefits? Thank you.
    • Hello -

This liposomal vitamin B12 with a bit of L-5-MTHF is safe for teenagers. It may support healthy neurotransmitter formation - especially if combined with Magnesium Plus, Optimal Protein Powder and Optimal Fish Oil

There are no risks involved with any of these nutrients if used as indicated on the label.

  • How effective is this product for b12 deficiency?12/24/12 3:30 PM
    • Hello,

I have mutation C677T and A1298C and might have b12 deficiency.

I don't want to take high dosage of folate and I would also like to build up the tolerate level of b12 slowly. Instead of getting Active B12 Lozenge With L-5-MTHF, I am interested in the liposomal Active B12.

How effective is this Liposomal B12? Do I have to take it in empty stomach to have better absorption?
    • Hello -

The Liposomal B12 is in a unique preparation which is designed to enhance its absorption.

It is best to take liposomal vitamins without food.

You do not have to take it on an empty stomach as the liposomes still will be absorbed. It is recommend to take away from food in order to optimize the absorption - but again - it is not absolutely necessary.

  • Safe for toddlers?3/5/13 9:11 AM
    • Is this product safe for a toddler with ++C677T parent? She is not breastfeeding any more. Or would your chewable multi be better? Don't want to overdo it!
    • Hello -

It all depends on the individual.

You may use a little of the Optimal Multivitamin Chewable - say 1/5th tablet with breakfast.

The Optimal Liposomal Active B12 with L-5-MTHF could also work - just use a few drops to start.

Be sure to inform your doctor how you intend to provide her nutrients.

I highly recommend using ProBiota Infant for newborns up to 2 yr olds and then switch to ProBiota 12 Powder and use 1/8th teaspoon after dinner.

  • Good choice for my daughter?3/10/13 7:28 PM
    • Dr. Ben,
Thank you for your website with all its information. I see you generally recommend starting with the Active B12 w/ L-5 MTHF lozenge, start slow and work up. Since my 5-yr old daughter with autism cannot suck lozenges, (heterozygous for C677T and A1298C) would Optimal Liposomal Active B12 be a good choice?
      Thank you,
      Joanna
    • Hi Joanna -

Yes - it would be a good option.

You may also just have your daughter take the lozenge and put it in her mouth - even if she doesn't suck on it - she will still likely gain benefit.

      Start low and work up.

Do work with a doctor on this.

The liposomal B12 supplement does not contain citric acid.

  • Product seperates and has clots, should I throw it out?9/12/13 6:50 AM
    • Hi,
I have the liposomal Active B12 supplement and have been using it for a while now, approx. 6 months. I noticed the last few weeks the product starts to separate and has some clots in it. Is it still safe to take and still useful or is it better to throw it out?
    • Hello Kat,

I think what you are seeing is separation of the Phosphatidylcholine Liposome. The product should still be safe and effective. I would use your judgment as to continuing with the product if the taste or odor has changed. You also may try giving the bottle a good shake. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

      Thank you,

      Strother Kukes
