Product Description
Why choose Optimal Magnesium by Seeking Health?
Magnesium deficiency is common among all age groups. Food processing is a major cause of magnesium depletion. As much as 85% of the magnesium content of whole wheat is lost when refined to white flour. Deficiencies may also be caused by excessive calcium intake, moderate-to-excessive alcohol consumption, gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, kidney dysfunction, and the use of some diuretics, estrogens, and corticosteroids. Magnesium has numerous beneficial actions in the body, including:• Muscle Relaxation: Magnesium exerts a relaxant effect on muscles by inhibiting calcium influx and smooth muscle contraction.
• Bone Formation: Magnesium is essential for bone matrix formation and helps maintain bone strength. Magnesium deficiency can result in low calcium and cause vitamin D abnormalities.
• Cardiovascular Function: Magnesium may play an important role in regulating blood pressure and cardiac rhythm and assisting cardiac muscle function.
• Blood Sugar Metabolism: Magnesium is involved in glucose metabolism and insulin action. More than 30% of diabetics are low in magnesium. Low levels have been linked to insulin resistance and abnormal glucose tolerance.
What makes Optimal Magnesium superior to other magnesium supplements on the market?
Many common magnesium supplements, including magnesium oxide and inorganic magnesium salts, have limited solubility and bioavailability and may induce adverse gastrointestinal side effects including diarrhea in some individuals. In contrast, Optimal Magnesium contains a well-tolerated form of magnesium that is easy to digest and absorb.Gets into your system faster!
While magnesium salts must first dissociate into a free magnesium ion before it can be absorbed either through passive absorption or bound to amino acid carriers present in the diet, Optimal Magnesium contains magnesium pre-attached to an amino acid carrier. This allows it to pass readily through the intestinal epithelium. In addition, although absorption of free magnesium ion is susceptible to interference by other nutrients, absorption of magnesium chelate is not disrupted by other nutrients. As a natural absorptive form, magnesium amino acid chelate is exceptionally well tolerated and has a very low incidence of adverse side effects.
Optimal Magnesium can be used by adults or children who wish to increase daily magnesium intake.
Suggested Use: One to two capsules daily with food or as directed by physician.

Product Questions
Questions on Optimal Magnesium - 100 Vegetarian Capsules
- Optimal Magnesium 3/21/12 9:50 AM
- Hi - My doctor recommends that I consume between 400mg and 800mg a day of magnesium that is bound with citrate or malate and combined with vitamin B6. I should avoid magnesium carbonate, sulfate, gluconate and oxide. Does your Optimal Magnesium meet the above specs that my doctor outlined? If you don't use citrate or malate for binding, why do you prefer to use something else?
I have one other question. Is there any way that my daughter and I can talk to someone to get suggestions for Seeking Health products that will be beneficial for breast cancer without paying $150 for a consultation? Thanks for your help. - Hello - I prefer using glycinate to bind magnesium to - which is what you find in Optimal Magnesium. The reasoning behind this is when you bind something to an amino acid -such as glycine - it absorbs very well. Citrates are corn-derived and can be acidic/irritating to the gut. Magnesium glycinate is very easy on the gut and very well absorbed. I agree with your doctor that carbonate, sulfate, gluconate and oxide are poor forms to bind to for the most part. If you need to take 800 mg a day of magnesium, then I recommend you take 2 capsules of Optimal Magnesium in the AM with breakfast and 2 more capsules in the evening before bed. This will provide 600 mg of pure magnesium. The other option is to take less Optimal Magnesium - such as 1 capsule twice a day - along with Magnesium Plus - at one capsule twice a day. This will provide 500 mg of magnesium glycinate and 60 mg of the most active form of vitamin B6 - pyridoxal-5-phosphate. You can also take a capsule or two more of either product if you need further magnesium support - or further B6 support. Magnesium Plus is found here: http://www.seekinghealth.com/magnesium-plus-magnesium-b6.html ---------- Regarding your question about breast cancer - it depends on if the breast cancer is estrogen-receptive or not - I recommend for breast cancer supporting a reduction in inflammation, reduction in estrogen levels (if elevated or estrogen-sensitive breast cancer), and increasing immune support. That said, the following are recommendations to consider: - Vitamin D360: 3 drops daily which provides 6,000 IU of vitamin D3. Check vitamin D3 levels by your doctor -they should be around 50. http://www.seekinghealth.com/vitamin-d-drops-liquid-vitamin-d360.html - Optimal Turmeric: 2 capsules twice daily to reduce inflammation which is increased during cancer - and increases risk of cancer as well. http://www.seekinghealth.com/optimal-turmeric-100-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html - DIM+I3C: 1-4 capsules daily depending on estrogen levels and the cancer's sensitivity to estrogen. http://www.seekinghealth.com/dim-supplement-indole-3-carbinol-dim.html - Optimal Iodine: 1 capsule daily as iodine levels are typically low in those with breast cancer http://www.seekinghealth.com/optimal-iodine-90-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html Obtain genetic testing for MTHFR and COMT - both of which may be factors in increasing risk for breast cancer. Locate a physician who works with cancer holistically - http://www.oncanp.org/find_state.html I hope this serves you well - In health, Dr Ben
