Probiotics for Infants | Infant Probiotics | Baby Probiotics | ProBiota Infant

Product Description

Does your infant experience colic, digestive upset, diarrhea, colds, rashes, or skin problems? Developing a healthy balance of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract is an important part of childhood development. Healthy intestinal microorganisms help reduce the incidence of food allergies, prevent pathogenic bacteria from causing sickness, and reduce the amount of environmental toxins absorbed.1,3

The diverse variety of beneficial bacteria in ProBiota Infant helps support gastrointestinal and immune system health for children up to the age of 2 and is specially formulated to aid digestion & absorption of breast milk. ProBiota Infant provides a potent 10 billion organisms or more per 1/4 teaspoon serving.

The specialty blend of Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria in ProBiota Infant supports:

  • Reduced Pathogenic Bacteria & Yeasts: Beneficial probiotic bacteria compete with and exclude harmful microbes from the intestines such as Escherichia coli, Clostridium perfringes, and C. difficile often responsible for rotavirus diarrhea and other infections in infants.
  • Healthy Immune Responses: Lactobacillus bacteria are essential for the healthy development of the infant immune system, reducing the risk of atopic eczema and allergies. Five Bifidobacterium species normally predominant in an infant’s gastrointestinal tract are also included in ProBiota Infant to help modulate immune response to allergens.1,3
  • Improved Nutrient Absorption: ProBiota Infant includes Bifidobactera infantis, a probiotic bacteria that’s unique to infant digestive tracts and helps them digest and absorb nutrients from milk.2

How to administer and store ProBiota 12: This good tasting powder can be placed directly onto the child's tongue from your clean fingertip or a clean spoon, mixed with expressed breast milk, formula, or solid food at room temperature as needed. Probiota Infant will maintain or exceed label potency for a year if kept refrigerated. If kept at average room temperature, Probiota Infant will remain potent for 4-6 months. At higher temperatures (86 F), Probiota Infant will maintain potency for about 2 months. These claims are verified by independent, real-time viability tests.

What makes ProBiota Infant the best childrens’ probiotic?

  • ProBiota Infant is formulated to be ideal for your infant or toddler's metabolism: An infant’s gastrointestinal tract is not fully mature and cannot process the D(-) isomer of lactic acid produced by certain Lactobacillus species often found in adult probiotics, such as L. acidophilus and L. reuteri. This product contains only Lactobacillus species that are safe for an infant’s metabolism.
  • ProBiota Infant survives the journey through your child’s digestive system: To be effective, the living organisms in probiotics must survive travelling through stomach acids on the way to the small intestine and colon. This formula uses proprietary technology that protects probiotics against destruction by harsh gastric conditions. As a result, more of the beneficial probiotic bacteria survive the journey to do their work in the GI tract.
  • ProBiota Infant contains only high quality, non-allergenic ingredients: The probiotics used are cultured on a vegetarian growth media that is free of common allergens including dairy, wheat, gluten, egg, and soy, thus reducing your child’s exposure to potential allergens. No sugar, artificial sweeteners, coloring, flavors, or preservatives are used in ProBiota Infant or any other Seeking Health product. Inulin, a dietary fiber derived from chicory root, is used as a base ingredient in place of maltodextrin derived from corn or wheat, often used in other probiotic supplements.

Dr Ben uses ProBiota Infant personally for his youngest son, Theo, who is doing great! No ear infections or digestive troubles at all!

    • How are the lactase drops supposed to be used with breastmilk for 4 month old infant that appears to be lactose intolerant?

    • Hello - Good talking with you. Infant health is one of my passions and always happy to help. Products recommended in the phone consult: 1. Lactase Drops by Seeking Health. 2. ProBiota Infant by Seeking Health. As suggested, consider the following techniques to add Lactase Drops to your breastmilk: 1. Using Lactase Drops without waiting 12 to 24 hours: - This method also works for feeding in a 'pinch' when you do not have time to wait around 12 to 24 hours. - To ensure less lactose intolerant symptoms, double the amount of Lactase Drops in this situation... ie. add 4 drops of Lactase Drops in 4 ounces of breastmilk. You should not need that much on average but each baby's lactose intolerance varies Thaw out your frozen breastmilk in the refrigerator or room temperature if you are going to use it soon. Warm the breastmilk in a double boiler to your desired temperature. Never microwave breastmilk or formula. a) Add 7 drops of Lactase Drops per pint of milk. There are 16 ounces in a pint of milk. b) If you are using 4 ounces of breastmilk, then consider using 2 drops of Lactase Drops. c) Feed your baby without waiting. 2. Using Lactase Drops and waiting 12 to 24 hours before feeding: - This method is the recommended method for reducing lactose in breastmilk and formula. Thaw out your frozen breastmilk in the refrigerator. a) Add 7 drops of Lactase Drops per pint of milk. There are 16 ounces in a pint of milk. b) If you are using 4 ounces of breastmilk, then consider adding 2 drops of Lactase Drops to the bottle. c) Store the baby bottle with thawed out breastmilk and Lactase Drops for 12 to 24 hours. d) Warm the milk and feed. e) This method is the preferred method to feed lactose intolerant infants and babies. Probiotics are an absolutely essential component to ensure an infant's long term health. Probiotics that are given to infants from birth onward have: - reduced allergies - reduced environmental exposures - improved immunity - reduced skin problems such as eczema - reduced asthma Over 70% of our immune system resides in our digestive tract. If our digestive tract contains harmful bacteria or is low in beneficial bacteria, ie. probiotics, then our immune systems become compromised. Compromised immune systems lead to autoimmune conditions, asthma, skin problems, frequent illnesses and inflammatory bowel disorders. I recommend you consider giving 1/4 teaspoon of ProBiota Infant probiotic powder to your baby each evening right after feeding or during. The ProBiota Infant tastes quite good and is slightly sweet due to the prebiotic so your baby should eat it without problem. To administer ProBiota Infant, simply take 1/4 teaspoon and you may give it:- directly in your baby's mouth via a spoon or from the tip of your finger. (ideal method) - mixed in the breastmilk or formula. (not ideal as some probiotic may be wasted on the sides of the bottle or the milk may not be consumed all the way and thrown out) Should you still notice digestive discomfort in your infant, then they likely do not have lactose intolerance. Instead, they likely have dairy intolerance. Skin prick testing or food allergy panels do not always show the foods which are causing symptoms. Great books on food allergy and food intolerance to read are: Alternative Approach to Allergies by Theron Randolph, MD Is this Your Child? by Doris Rapp, MD The ProBiota Infant is a must and you will see a much healthier baby. Here are some resources that illustrate the important of probiotics in infants. Do let me know how your baby is doing with the above recommendations. Any questions, please post below. • My 18 month old baby just dumped a bunch of ProBiota Infant Powder into her mouth. What do I do about this!?
    • Stop giving her ProBiota Infant Powder for a week. ProBiota Infant Powder is completely safe. She may experience abdominal discomfort though with such a large dose. You will likely notice increased gas, bloating, diarrhea and stomach upset which should resolve itself in 24 to 48 hours. The bacteria in ProBiota Infant Powder are transient meaning they stay in the digestive tract for a limited time. This is true for most probiotic supplements - if not all. This is why one has to continually take probiotics in order to maintain the beneficial effects of them. I do recommend calling your pediatrician and informing them what happened. Ask them for tips on how to relieve or reduce her potential stomach upset. You may comfort your daughter by applying castor oil on her stomach, applying a warm damp towel over her abdomen and performing an exercise on her belly: 1. Lay your daughter on her back. 2. Wrap your hands around her lower legs 3. While lifting her legs, fold her legs naturally all the way to her chest and back down again. 4. Repeat this motion. This is basically the same motion you would do on yourself if you laid down on the ground, bent your knees to chest, held your knees and rocked forward and backward along your spine while holding your legs. Gas will be released and discomfort as well by doing this exercise. ProBiota Infant Powder does taste quite good to toddlers and infants so this can happen. Hindsight is always 20/20 but please do keep ProBiota Infant Powder on the top shelf in your refrigerator to limit this. My youngest, when he was 2, got a large spoonful of ProBiota Infant in his mouth and all he experienced was increased gas and loose stools. After a week, you may proceed in giving her the recommended amount of ProBiota Infant Powder. In health, Dr Ben

  • My baby is still colicky at 4 months :(6/23/12 5:24 PM
    • Hi, I just started giving my 4 month old baby biogia probiotic drops and I was wondering if I can also give her your probiotic infant powder as well. It said on your website that the bacteria contained in biogia is not necessarily very helpful for colic. My baby had a really bad case of colic, inconsolable crying that lasted 6-7 hours at a stretch every night. Then she would get exhausted and fall asleep, and then the next day would be the same thing all over again. It has gotten better but she still doesn't nap well and often has crying episodes during which she strains and releases gas forcefully and sometimes it just comes out on its own ( without crying, but still after some fussiness). She will now turn 4 months and I was hoping that it would be gone by now but it's not. Can you tell me where I can buy your product in Saudi Arabia. I will be heading to Dubai, UAE in a couple of weeks, can you also tell me if it's available there? Will it help her gas troubles and colic? I am giving her Similac total comfort (i think it has a lower lactose content for easier digestion) formula right now and just switched to Similac hypoallergenic (HA) 3 days ago. I don't see too much of a difference so I don't think it's a cow protein allergy, but I will still continue and see if it helps. I have been giving her the biogia probiotic drops for about a week now. Please help!!!! And let me know where I can find your product here. I have someone traveling to the US in about a month so I could order it from there but I read that the temperature reduces the potency of the product and I don't wan to order dead bacteria all the way from the US.
    • Hello -

      A couple recommendations:

Consider obtaining Lactase Drops and mixing them into the formula prior to feeding. Add 1-2 drops of Lactase Drops per 150 ml of formula.

The Lactase Drops helps digest the lactose which may cause intense cramping in children - and colic.

I also would look for a homeopathic remedy called, "Colic Tablets" by Hylands - these may be found at HealthE Goods - along with Seeking Health products - so you can do all your shopping there if you like.

ProBiota Infant is quite stable even in hot temperatures:"At higher temperatures (86 F), Probiota Infant will maintain potency for about 2 months. These claims are verified by independent, real-time viability tests."

Applying castor oil on her belly and gently rubbing it in a clockwise circle - gently - may help relieve some of the pain and gas.

I do not recommend allowing her to eat laying down. Keep her upright and do not allow her to feed in her crib or bed. When she is done eating, be sure to burp her so excess air comes out.

Also make sure the nipple you are using is not causing her to get too much air.

      Keep me posted.

      In health,

      Dr Lynch

  • Where are ingredients sourced from?7/11/12 1:26 PM
    • Are all ingredients grown in the united states? Are all products produced in the united states? In particular my focus is on the infant probiotic formula. Additionally, does the probiotic help a 22 month premie with chronic constipation (started when she stopped nursing)? Child was given significant doses of antibiotics during her 100 day + stay in the hospital at birth. Child has been on miralax ? most of her young life and I am very concerned.
    • Hello -

All ingredients are grown or produced in the United States and/or Canada.

In regards to the ProBiota Infant, this is completely developed here in the United States.

ProBiota Infant may help your daughter with her digestive issues. Consider starting by giving her 1/4 teaspoon after her last feeding of the day. Give 1/4 teaspoon daily. You may notice increased gas and bloating for the first couple days upon starting ProBiota Infant - but this should abate within a couple days. It is totally normal and is a sign that her digestive flora is undergoing some dramatic changes.

      I highly recommend ProBiota Infant.

I'd also evaluate which foods she is currently eating. I'd stop all wheat and evalute if she does well on dairy, goat or soy.

    • hello. how much will be shipping via FedEx to Kazakhstan?
    • Hi Dmitry -

Please add the ProBiota Infant to the Shopping Cart and there you can select your Country and enter in your Postal Code. The shopping cart will estimate shipping for you.

I was going to do it for you but I do not know your postal code.

Using USPS First Class International Mail is the least expensive option but it may take up to 4 to 6 weeks to arrive.

Using FedEx International is definitely much faster yet more expensive.

    • How many days will continue the course ProBiota Infant ?
    • Hello -

ProBiota Infant should be used from birth up to 2 yrs old. Given nighly after feeding is the best time to give it. Simply place directly on their tongue - they should accept it readily as the taste is quite palatable.

After 2 yrs old, consider switching to ProBiota 12 Powder and giving 1/16th teaspoon after dinner.

    • My 4 month baby is on several continious course of antibiotic due to uti. Eversince then, he having enzema. Last two weeks he was contacted hives. I think his immune system is being compromised. His bowel movement is not often as usual and goes up to almost two weeks. Does your probiotic helps? What is the doses for him. Btw he still nursing.
    • Hello -

Consider starting with 1/4 teaspoon of ProBiota Infant probiotic powder after the evening breastfeeding. You also should be on probiotics if you are not yet - probiotics have been shown to pass through breastmilk and into baby. Consider 1/4 teaspoon of ProBiota 12 Powder for you taken after dinner.

Be sure you are taking about 6,000 IU of vitamin D3 a day - this is 3 drops of Optimal Vitamin D.

You also should be taking DHA, EPA and choline. These nutrients support membrane health. You may consider taking 2 capsules of Optimal Krill Oil twice daily with a meal.

Optimal Liposomal Vitamin C taken by you may also support your baby. Consider a teaspoon or two daily.

These nutrients do support the immune system along with cell membrane integrity. Be sure to continue taking your prenatal as well.

  • baby eczema mthfr probiota infant12/23/12 9:51 PM
    • Dear Dr Lynch
My 9month Old has had severe eczema since she was 4 months, she's homozygous for mthfr c677, has had very low good bacteria in her gut borderline anemic, low vitamin d, eosiniphils high by 30% changed formula 6 times is nowwon an amino based formula and things have calmed down some, want to get her off topical steroids. At the advice of a homeopathic dr I have been giving her therbiotic complete (adult probiotic). I would love to switch to probiota infant but will this have enough probiotic cfus for her...desperatly trying to get her gut flora healthy so that she can hopefully start eating more solids without having so many allergic reactions. She's Been on antibiotics twice for skin staph infections due to eczema scartching etc. With a baby with all this going on how. Much of the probiota infant should I give her a day? How much should she get after a round or 10 days of antibiotics and for how long etc? Thank you in advance for your time and help. I greatly appreciate it. Carolyn
    • Hi Carolyn -

ProBiota Infant is designed for infant flora and is likely better suited for her. You may start her on the recommended amount on the label and work up as needed. Do take 2 hrs after the antibiotics. It is best to give the ProBiota infant probiotic powder after dinner or before bed.

I highly recommend looking into finding a doctor who is knowledgeable about MTHFR. You may need to add in methylfolate, iron and methylcobalamin in her formula - along with choline, zinc and EPA/DHA.

The 'Find a Doctor' page on MTHFR.Net provides some useful medical associations.

Be sure to bathe her in chlorine-free water. Chlorine is very irritating to the skin. Consider using 1 teaspoon of Pure Bath mixed into the bath water next time you run a bath for her. It is designed to eliminate chlorine and chloramines.

  • homemade formula1/15/13 4:01 PM
    • MY grandson was a c-section baby and wasn't given breast milk. He was started out on regular formula. When he was 6 mo I found out about a recipe for home made formula. I purchased a kit with all of the ingredients to make it. He has always had a problem with a lot of gas. It is a dairy based formula as I did not want him to have soy knowing what I have learned about soy. He still has a lot of gas so I have found this site and read several of the questions that you have been ask. I wonder if it is because of the dairy and wondered if your lactase drops could help out in this. The formula recipe calls for lactose. Other than the excessive amount of gas he is thriving on the formula. Thanks
    • Hello -

If your son is thriving on the formula and the only complaint is gas, then do consider ProBiota Infant probiotic powder.

You may place a 1/4 teaspoon directly on his tongue or put on a small amount of food. It is best to give the probiotic after dinner.

I would also recommend the use of Lactase Drops. You would pre-mix the formula at night and add a couple drops of Lactase Drops to the bottle of formula. Then, the next morning, it is ready to use as the lactose content has been significantly reduced.

The longer you let the pre-made formula sit in the fridge, the less lactose it will have.

If you start noticing eczema, rashes, earaches, sinus congestion all the time, he may be developing a milk allergy.

I recommend reading the book called, Is This Your Child? by Doris Rapp.

    • You deserve a sweet smelling poo every time. Infant ProBiota is the best.

      Thank you
    • As a father of three boys, I can appreciate a sweet smelling poo vs an otherwise foul one! :) It is amazing how beneficial bacteria do not create foul odor as do pathogenic bacteria.

If your infant or toddler has gas smelling of sulfur, then consider removing sulfur-containing foods for a month - especially soy; and also continue using ProBiota Infant - 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon daily. if the problem persists, then have their doctor evalute their stool and digestive function.

      Best
