Saccharomyces Boulardii Probiotic | Saccharomyces Boulardii by Seeking Health

Product Description

Living with an inflammatory digestive condition? Taking antibiotics, or stuggling with pathogenic bacteria such as Helicobacter pylori or Clostridium difficile? Saccharomyces boulardii is a beneficial yeast that has been effectively used to treat antibiotic-associated diarrhea as well as supporting a reduced inflammatory response. Saccharomyces boulardii by Seeking Health contains 3 billion organisms per vegetarian capsule without any fillers, flow agents, or preservatives and is laboratory tested to confirm label potency.

Saccharomyces boulardii is an acid-resistant, temperature tolerant microorganism that is not affected by antibiotics. This means Saccharomyces boulardii can be taken at the same time as prescription antibiotics to reduce symptoms of diarrhea and prevent pathogenic organisms such as Candida albicans, H. pylori and C. difficile from gaining a foothold. Saccharomyces boulardii also reduces the body’s inflammatory response in the intestines, making it a helpful ally in treating:

  • C. difficile disease
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Gastroenteritis

How does Saccharomyces Boulardii work?

Saccharomyces Boulardii augments the intestinal absorption of D-glucose coupled with sodium that may enhance uptake of water and electrolytes during diarrhea. It increases stool concentrations of short-chain fatty acids that nourish colon mucosal cells. Saccharomyces Boulardii augments the intestinal absorption of D-glucose coupled with sodium that may enhance uptake of water and electrolytes during diarrhea. It increases stool concentrations of short-chain fatty acids that nourish colon mucosal cells.

Saccharomyces Boulardii increases colonic populations of healthful bifidobacteria and reduces numbers of pathogenic clostridia. It modulates immunity by boosting intestinal secretion of IgA and increasing crypt cell immuno-globulin receptors. It inhibits inflammatory cytokine pathways and secretes a factor that blocks C. difficile toxin A activities. Research has found that Saccharomyces Boulardii supports healthy intestinal function in an array of clinical settings including antibiotic-associated diarrhea, C. difficile disease, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and traveler’s diarrhea.

    • Can a person take too much probiotics? I have been on probiotics for about 6 months. But recently has switched to Seeking Health Probiota and taking the powder right now (switched to evening as you recommended).

My question, can a person take too much probiotic? How long should a person take a probiotic - should this be taken daily as maintenance?

Do probiotics help push out parasites?

      As always, appreciate your recommendations.
    • Hello - In short: 1. Yes a person can take too much probiotic 2. A person needs to take a probiotic daily just like a multivitamin, fish oil and vitamin D3 3. Yes specific probiotics can push out and prevent parasites. Certain beneficial such as saccharomyces boulardii kill parasites such as giardia. Yes, Probiotics can prevent and treat parasite infections. The main way probiotics prevent parasite infections is by preventing the parasites from binding to the intestinal wall. Probiotics themselves bind to the intestinal walls protecting us from environmental exposures and harmful bacteria from entering our bodies. In depth: Yes, a person can take too much probiotic, especially if it is single strain or a couple strains. Example, I had a patient who was autistic and could not speak. There are numerous reasons for autistic children; however, it turned out that he was given high dose lactobacilus daily by his parents. I ordered a lab test which showed he had very elevated lactate levels and very elevated lactobacilus. Elevated lactate levels can cause speech problems. He was prescribed various nutrients to bring down the lactate and the lactobacilus was discontinued and contraindicated. That is a very potent example of taking too much probiotic. Yes, a person needs to take a probiotic daily which is multistrain and in not too high a dose. One needs to take a multistrain probiotic to ensure that there is not just one type of bacteria dominating the environment of the digestive system. There are numerous issues with probiotics which you must educate yourself on. Currently you are taking ProBiota 12 Powder at dinner. Taking ProBiota 12 Powder longer than 2-3 months is not recommended unless one has inflammatory bowel disease which is not healing. I recomend taking ProBiota 12 capsules after 1 month of ProBiota 12 Powder. ProBiota 12 Powder is recommended to take at 1/2 teaspoon 10 minutes after dinner for those having: - been on antibiotics, - digestive issues, - has not taken probiotics for a long period of time - has parasites - has yeast overgrowth - has an autoimmune disorder For long term use, I recommend taking 1 capsule of ProBiota 12 taken 10 minutes after dinner. Should you have any questions, please post below. Best, Dr Ben

  • Enteric Coated3/15/12 6:43 PM
    • Hi,

      Are these capsules enteric coated?
Is this product suitable for use during pregnancy?
I have gastritis and heterozygous 1298AC MTHFR mutation.
I don't have diarrhea, rather the reverse.

      Thanks,
      Sophie
    • Hi Sophie - These capsules do not need to be enteric coated as Saccharomyces boulardii can withstand acidic pH. According to research: "S. boulardii survives significantly better at low pH than other strains of S. cerevisiae. Our study demonstrated that in terms of adherence and survival in the gut, S. boulardii strain did not differ significantly from the commonly used laboratory strains. However, we observed differences in the extent of survival of Saccharomyces yeast strains to the acidic conditions of the stomach when an acid sensitivity assay was performed. In comparison to the controls, both S. boulardii and S. cerevisiae BY3 displayed an increased number of CFU/ml after 1 h at pH 7 at 37°C, indicating that cells currently undergoing budding were able to complete their cycle and form 2 viable CFU (Fig. 5). As the pH decreased, the viability of S. boulardii remained similar to that of the control, down to pH 2." source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1855594/pdf/2201-06.pdf Saccharomyces boulardii has been researched and proven clinically beneficial to support a healthy stomach lining and create an environment not welcome to helicobactor pylori. You will have to ask your doctor if Saccharomyces Boulardii is safe for you during pregnancy. There is no research done on this. Saccharomyces boulardii is a probiotic and is healing to the gut but safety in pregnancy has not been proven. Upon waking in the morning, try adding 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice to a 1/4 cup of water. Sip slowly. This will help stimulate digestion and may improve your constipation. I also recommend you consider taking 1 to 2 capsules of ProBiota 12 after dinner. http://www.seekinghealth.com/probiotic-supplement-probiota-12.html In health, Dr Ben

  • Soil Based Organisms2/2/13 5:21 PM
    • Do any of your probiotic products contain soil based organisms?
    • Hello -

To me, this may be a marketing campaign that is without scientific research.

How many bacteria are found in soils? Many.

Are some of the probiotic strains which we use found in the soils? Perhaps.

Are our probiotics harvested from soil? No. They are grown on a vegetarian media in a laboratory environment for safety and purity.

Our probiotics are research specific and geared towards human consumption.

In the research, there are various strains of probiotics which are effective in various different ways.

We tend to blend a variety of such probiotics as we feel a multistrain, researched probiotic product is more effective than one that is potentially marketing hype.

      In health,

      Dr Lynch
