Cod Liver Oil contains about 800 IU of Vit D per tablespoon. The RDA is 400 IU. Physicians are currently recommending much higher doses of vitamin D in the form of cholcalciferol which is vitamin D3.
Vitamin D2 is garbage. Vitamin D3 is the recommended form to take by most doctors.
Cod liver oil is vitamin D3.
One doctor states that 25 hydroxy vitamin D levels raise by one point per week when one takes 2000 IU Vitamin D3 per day. So if your vitamin D level was 30 and you need to get to about 100, it will take 70 weeks to get there at 2000 IU per day.
People with autoimmune disease are commonly found to have low vitamin D levels. Research has shown that people should have their blood 25 OH vitamin D levels around 100.
A lab test which most doctors order to assess vitamin D levels is " serum 25 OH vitamin D ".
2000 IU of vitamin D3 is one drop of our liquid vitamin D3. Make note that this is one DROP of vitamin D3 liquid makes 2000 IU - not one dropperful!
It is recommended to take fat soluble vitamins with meals also - and vitamin D is fat soluble.
Now that it is becoming sunny outside, get out there 30 minutes a day in short sleeves and shorts if you can. There is no better way to get vitamin D than from the sun. It is harder to get vitamin D if you have dark skin or have sun screen on. Make sure you are not going to burn obviously.
If you find you are not absorbing vitamin D, you may not be producing or releasing bile acids from your gall bladder. If this is the case, you likely would not be absorbing other fats as well or fat soluble vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin E or vitamin D.
A sign of your gall bladder not working well would be gas after fatty meals or stomach pains. Ask your doctor about gall bladder health.
Best,
Ben |
