Who Needs Acetyl-L-Carnitine

Like many, you want to support healthy fat metabolism and aging processes. Optimizing your physical and mental performance is a critical foundation for quality of life.

Acetyl-L-carnitine is a unique amino acid in the human body. It supports healthy energy production, brain and nervous system function, and fat metabolism.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine provides a concentrated serving of L-carnitine in a bioavailable acetyl form.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine by Seeking Health provides a more concentrated serving of L-carnitine than is readily available from dietary sources. Each vegan-friendly capsule provides 500 mg of acetyl-L-carnitine. This form may be better utilized by brain and nervous system tissues.

Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR) is a bioavailable form of L-carnitine. Your body naturally produces L-carnitine. However, tissue concentrations decrease with age. This makes L-carnitine consumption even more important as we age and for older adults. Under conditions of stress and illness, your body’s ability to make L-carnitine and acetyl-L-carnitine also decline.

Acetyl-L-carnitine is absorbed across the blood-brain barrier more efficiently than L-carnitine. In the brain, it supports the production of acetylcholine, and appears to also bind directly to acetylcholine receptors. This neurotransmitter is known to support brain function. Combined with its supportive effects on mitochondrial health, these unique qualities make acetyl-L-carnitine a powerful tool for cognitive health.

Acetyl-L-carnitine plays an important role in fat metabolism. Your body uses L-carnitine to transport fats into the mitochondria of cells. This promotes the conversion of dietary fat into cellular energy.

Your brain, heart, and muscles have high concentrations of mitochondria. These tissues benefit from carnitine, which is needed to shuttle fats into the mitochondria for local energy production. By assisting in fatty acid metabolism, acetyl-L-carnitine also supports healthy sperm count and motility.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine supports healthy:

  • Aging processes
  • Brain health & cognitive function
  • Nerve sensations
  • Physical performance
  • Fat metabolism
  • Sperm health
  • Vision
  • Memory
  • Mood

Acetyl-L-Carnitine is also the perfect addition to your fitness protocol. Exercise results in normal tissue tearing and oxidative stress. To rebuild muscle tissues requires cellular energy. Muscle contains an abundance of mitochondria, thus requires L-carnitine to transport fats into cells so they can be burned for fuel. Thanks to its unique ability to cross the blood-brain-barrier, it is also a brilliant support for mental performance.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine by Seeking Health is a great option for athletes, the elderly, or anyone looking to optimize fat burning and energy levels.

Key Ingredients In Acetyl-L-Carnitine

  • Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR): An incredibly versatile compound that supports healthy nerves, vision, fat metabolism, and memory.

Why Acetyl-L-Carnitine Works

Carnitine plays a unique role in the human body. It is a key component in protein that shuttles long-chain fats into mitochondria where they are turned into energy or ATP.

The Greek root for the word carnitine is carn. This literally translates to flesh or meat. It’s no wonder that this amino acid is prominently found in red meat products.

Unfortunately, carnitine from the diet is not readily absorbed or passed through the blood brain barrier. This is unfortunate, as the brain is rich in fats that could be a potential source of energy for the brain cells. In fact, the brain uses a tremendous amount of energy.

Fats (lipids) provide a dense source of energy. Per gram, fats contain nine calories of energy, compared to four calories from both carbohydrates and proteins. In essence, fat has a lot of energy potential. For your body to convert fat into energy, it must first be shuttled into the mitochondria. Long-chain fats can only enter mitochondria through shuttle proteins that require carnitine to function. Once inside the mitochondria, fats are broken down into the acetyl coenzyme A (acetyl-CoA) that is used to make ATP or energy.

The shuttle protein on the outer mitochondrial membrane is known as CAT1 or carnitine acyltransferase 1. It attaches carnitine to a fatty acid. A separate protein embedded in the inner membrane (called CACT or carnitine acylcarnitine translocase) ultimately transfers the carnitine fatty acid combo into the mitochondria. Once there, the carnitine separates from the fatty acid leaving these fats available for fatty acid oxidation. Through beta oxidation, numerous acetyl-CoA molecules can be formed. These acetyl-CoA are ultimately turned into ATP via the Krebs or tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle.

The heart, brain, nerves, sperm, and muscles contain high concentrations of mitochondria. Thus, their function is optimized when burning fat for fuel. Acetyl-L-carnitine supplementation supports healthy fat utilization and energy production.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine by Seeking Health provides 500 mg of acetyl-L-carnitine per vegan-friendly capsule. This bioavailable form of L-carnitine can readily cross the blood brain barrier to powerfully support brain and cognitive health.

If you’re seeking support for fat metabolism, brain function, and healthy aging, consider adding Acetyl-L-Carnitine to your daily routine.
