Who Needs Optimal Sleep

Do you occasionally struggle to sleep through the night?

Are you sensitive to melatonin, or perhaps it just doesn’t work for you?

Optimal Sleep is a melatonin-free sleep aid. The synergistic nutrients support healthy sleep duration.

This melatonin-free formula is designed by epigenetics expert, Dr. Ben Lynch. It supplies the nutrient cofactors your body needs to produce melatonin naturally. Melatonin, known as the “sleep hormone,” is a central part of your body’s sleep-wake cycle.

If you are looking for support to stay asleep some nights, Optimal Sleep is the formula you want. If you need more support falling asleep, consider Optimal Sleep II.

Many over-the-counter sleep aids contain melatonin. However, melatonin supplements can have potential side effects, including brain fog and drowsiness the next morning. With long-term use, melatonin can become habit-forming and even contribute to trouble sleeping.

Optimal Sleep contains the nutrient cofactors your body needs to build its own melatonin. These active ingredients include vitamin B6, magnesium, niacin, and zinc. A gentle serving of ashwagandha, 5-HTP, and phosphatidylserine is included to support cortisol regulation.

Collectively, these nutrients support a healthy sleep-wake cycle, circadian rhythm, stress response, and feelings of calm. By supporting your body’s natural melatonin production, you eliminate potential side effects from melatonin supplementation.

A good night’s sleep is an integral part of your mental and physical health during waking hours. If you find yourself struggling to stay asleep at night, Optimal Sleep might just be the perfect partner for your nighttime routine.

Finally getting good sleep

I have the hardest time staying asleep and sleeping soundly. This has been a game changer! So thankful to have found a healthy and safe way to get good sleep and feel well in the morning. ~Krista A.

Key Ingredients In Optimal Sleep

  • Vitamin B6: Supports healthy serotonin levels and glutamate metabolism to promote feelings of calm and relaxation.
  • Magnesium: Known as the “relaxation mineral,” magnesium supports a healthy mood and muscle relaxation. Magnesium is a known inhibitor of excitatory NMDA receptors in the brain. It also acts as a cofactor for the COMT enzyme to break down excitatory catecholamines.
  • Zinc: Supports healthy adrenal function and stress responses.
  • Niacin:Promotes healthy serotonin production. Supports normal muscle relaxation and a healthy nervous system.
  • 5-HTP: As a precursor to serotonin and melatonin, this derivative of tryptophan supports feelings of happiness and restful sleep.

Why Optimal Sleep Works

Research shows that healthy sleep increases productivity, improves mood, and can significantly influence your health.

The nutrients in Optimal Sleep are needed for your body to produce serotonin, a precursor to melatonin. Melatonin, often called the “sleep hormone,” is a key regulator of your sleep-wake cycle. Low levels of serotonin can prevent enough melatonin from being formed.

Your body makes serotonin (and melatonin) from the amino acid tryptophan. Tryptophan is then converted into 5-HTP, which becomes serotonin and eventually melatonin via a series of enzymatic reactions. However, many disruptions can occur along this biochemical pathway, slowing serotonin and melatonin production.

For example, stress and nutrient deficiencies can slow the conversion of tryptophan into 5-HTP. If niacin (vitamin B3) levels are low, your body will ‘steal’ tryptophan to make niacin in a process called the “tryptophan steal.” Niacin is included in this product to support healthy levels of tryptophan, 5-HTP, and ultimately melatonin.

Poor sleep quality and other sleep problems can be side effects of vitamin B6 deficiency. Vitamin B6 (P-5-P) is a required cofactor for L-aromatic amino acid decarboxylase (AAAD). This enzyme converts 5-HTP into serotonin. Low levels of B6 can result in low levels of serotonin and melatonin. Vitamin B6 is also a coenzyme for converting the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate into the calming neurotransmitter GABA. Vitamin B6 is included in this formula to support healthy neurotransmitter levels and amino acid metabolism.

Magnesium is referred to as “the relaxation mineral.” It supports muscle relaxation and feelings of calm. It plays a key role in inhibiting the overactivity of NMDA receptors in the brain that can lead to restlessness. Zinc is involved in many cellular processes and is often taken alongside magnesium to support sleep and relaxation. Niacin, magnesium, and zinc play crucial roles in supporting healthy stress levels, muscle relaxation, and adrenal function.

Chronic stress can disrupt sleep and increase the need for tryptophan. To further support healthy stress responses and mood, Optimal Sleep includes ashwagandha and phosphatidyl serine.

5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is an amino acid precursor to serotonin. Serotonin is involved in sleep regulation, hormone balance, appetite and temperature signaling, and many other processes. 5-HTP is included in this formula to support healthy serotonin production, sleep cycle, and mood.

Optimal Sleep contains sleep-promoting nutrients that help your body produce melatonin naturally. If you’re looking for melatonin-free sleep support, look no further than Optimal Sleep by Seeking Health.

How to Use Optimal Sleep

Suggested Use

Take 3 capsules away from food 30 minutes prior to bedtime or as directed by your healthcare professional. California residents should not exceed 1 capsule daily.

Children and pregnant or lactating women should consult their healthcare practitioner for medical advice prior to use. Do not use if tamper seal is damaged.

Niacin Flushing: This formula contains niacin. When taken on an empty stomach, a healthy response to niacin supplementation may include mild blushing, warming, or tingling of the skin. This can appear on the ears, face, arms, torso, or occasionally on the legs. Commonly referred to as a "niacin flush", this harmless response normally dissipates within an hour. It is related to niacin's role in vasodilation (widening of blood vessels). Vasodilation leads to better circulation, capillary flushing, and increased blood flow to the surface of the skin. To minimize or prevent flushing, consider taking this supplement with food or in divided doses.

How to Enhance Optimal Sleep

Consider Pulsing

Dr. Ben Lynch recommends using certain dietary supplements based on your need for them. Start with a partial serving and increase slowly over time to the full serving, only if needed. When you start feeling good, consider reducing the serving size, skipping days, or pausing supplementation. Then take again when you feel you need it (stressful day, traveling, chemical exposure, etc.), hence "pulsing." Work with your qualified healthcare practitioner to determine what's best for you.

Pairs Well With

Who is Optimal Sleep intended for?

Optimal Sleep is intended for adults seeking a high-quality, melatonin-free sleep support supplement. Low melatonin levels can lead to trouble sleeping. Those with low levels may find relief with melatonin supplements. However, those with normal melatonin levels typically report little sleep improvement with these supplements. They may also experience side effects such as drowsiness, brain fog, dizziness, or fatigue the next morning. Optimal Sleep contains no melatonin. Instead, it provides your body with sleep-promoting nutrients that promote natural melatonin production within your body.

Optimal Sleep is intended to help you fall asleep and stay asleep on those occasional sleepless nights. If you need specific support for falling asleep, consider Optimal Sleep II.

Optimal Sleep does not contain melatonin, as some people are sensitive to melatonin supplements. This formula is also free from L-theanine and valerian root.

Optimal Sleep II is designed to leave you feeling refreshed the next morning. Prescription sleep aids and over-the-counter sleep supplements like melatonin can have potential side effects, including drowsiness or a feeling of jet lag the day after taking them. Always talk to your doctor before using this product, especially if you have health conditions or diseases that need to be addressed, are pregnant, or breastfeeding. Consult with a sleep medicine doctor for medical advice if you have any sleep disorders, chronic insomnia, or struggle consistently to get a good night’s sleep.

Not sure about this one

I read about the differences between the two versions offered and bought this because I don't usually have much issue falling asleep, it's the staying asleep that is a problem, so it sounded like this is the better choice. As of yet I have not slept through the night while taking it. Also, if I take a full dose I often wake up groggy. I'm not sure why since I've taken other supplements with similar things in them. That's actually part of the reason I picked this one too. So, not sure if it will be a continuing purchase or if I'll try Optimal Sleep II perhaps.
