Vitamin B12 Type
Seeking Health’s line of methyl-free supplements is formulated to be free from methylated nutrients for those who may be sensitive. Instead, these multivitamins, prenatals, B vitamins, and stand-alone nutrients contain methyl-free versions of key nutrients. While methyl-free alternatives do not exist for every methylated nutrient, there are some great alternatives for B12 and folate. Non-methylated forms still provide your body with bioavailable folate and B12, but without the uncomfortable side effects that some people experience with methylated nutrients, such as methylfolate.
Folinic acid (calcium folinate) is a methyl-free form of folate that is only a few enzyme steps away from the active form of folate in your body, L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate (L-5-MTHF). Thus, it’s easy for your body to convert folinic acid into the active form of L-5-MTHF. Folinic acid should not be confused with the human-made version of folate, folic acid, which you will never find in any of our products.
Hydroxocobalamin or adenosylcobalamin are non-methylated forms of vitamin B12 that become methylated in the body via a few enzymatic conversions. This slower approach to providing methyl groups may be beneficial for people who are sensitive to methylated nutrients.
Methyl-free supplements will often be labeled as “Methyl-Free”, “Free from methyls”, “Non-methylated”, or “MF.” You can find Seeking Health’s line of methyl-free supplements below.
