Before you decide to purchase a DNA kit from any company, it's essential to thoroughly research and consider various factors. One crucial aspect to check is whether you can access the raw data generated from your DNA analysis.

Who Needs StrateGene Report®

StrateGene® is a customized genetic report. The results help you determine if you have genetic variations that can give you susceptibilities to specific health issues. This tool tells you where your DNA has certain changes, or variations, known as SNPs or single nucleotide polymorphisms. SNPs change the structure and shape of the specific enzymes they create. These enzymes can be related to nutrient levels (such as folate!), toxic byproduct breakdown (histamine!), and even mood (dopamine!). Knowing where your genes and enzymes need support is a VERY powerful tool for optimizing your health.

StrateGene® focuses on 9 key health areas, known as Pathways. These are visual representations of the actual biochemical processes happening in your body. For example, the Histamine Pathway shows the enzymes responsible for breaking down histamine in your body. If you struggle with high histamine levels, it could be related to a SNP in your Histamine Pathway. Are you wondering if you’re part of the 50% of people with a MTHFR gene mutation? The StrateGene® Report will show you this in the context of your entire Methylation Pathway.

Across each of these Pathways, there are 150 different variations that are evaluated. These genetic variations are strategically chosen by Dr. Ben Lynch and his research team. The SNPs analyzed in the StrateGene® Report are known to have a large clinical impact on health across many populations. By limiting report data to well-researched SNPs, a qualified health care practitioner is able to formulate a targeted testing and treatment plan – faster.

What Genetic Test Raw Data Can Be Used with the StrateGene® Report?

There are two types of raw data that you can upload to generate your StrateGene® Report.

  • AncestryDNA: The StrateGene® Report will only work with AncestryDNA tests purchased AFTER May 2016 (Version 2 only). It is not compatible with earlier test versions or data.

  • 23andMe: The StrateGene® Report works with ALL versions of the 23andMe DNA test. However, depending on which version of 23andMe you have, some SNPs that were available with earlier versions will be missing from later test versions. (See chart below)

Genes and SNPs Evaluated by StrateGene®

The SNPs analyzed and reported in the StrateGene® Report are dependent on the raw data provided by AncestryDNA, 23andMe or Self Decode. Seeking Health is not associated with any of these companies and will not be informed of any changes in their raw data collection. If the raw data is not available, the StrateGene® Report will show this section as "Data Not Available"

The raw data provided from these labs can and does change at any time without notice. Seeking Health does not have control of these changes and will not be notified. It is up to you, the customer, to contact 23andMe,AncestryDNA or Self Decode to determine which SNPs/RSIDs may or may not appear in your raw data.

In general, the more data that is collected on a SNP, the more reliable the resulting information.

  • (That's it! No need to read further if you understood the above. You can stay on this upload page until your report is processed and ready to download (10 minutes or less) or wait for the email notification.

Detailed Steps for 23andMe

  • Download a 23andMe raw data file
  • The file may take a while to download depending on your connection speed.
  • The file will download as a ZIP-compressed file. It may uncompress automatically on some computers, such as Macs.
  • Locate the download location and the file. The file name looks like this: "genome_Your_Name_v5_Full_20130731100557.txt" or like this: "genome_Your_Name_v5_Full_20130731100557.zip"
  • Upload your file on this page to generate your StrateGene® Report: https://upload.strategene.me/input/core/?[email]

Since SelfDecode files are not marked with the user's name, if you are handling more than one person's file, make sure that you know which file belongs to whom, for example by renaming them, or organizing them into different folders.

Once you have uploaded your raw data, stay on the page (10 minutes or less) until your StrateGene® report is ready for you to download. You can also wait for the email notification (10 minutes or less) and access your report through the link we email you.

Please be aware that we do not store your information and your report download will only be available for 20 days from the date of upload. We do this to protect your personal data. If you do not download and save your report within this timeframe, you will need to repurchase StrateGene® and reupload your raw data.

To access the Education Portal, create an account using the same email address that you used to purchase your StrateGene® Upload Report. (You must use the same email address, otherwise you will not be able to gain access to the Education Portal).

    Confirmed, works with Whole Genome Test

    This does work with a converted Whole Genome Test, however it is a lot of work! Bottom line, get the report! Seeking Health, I beg you to allow files bigger than 25mb (up to 65mb please), and thank you!

    I used the instructions from geneticlifehacks website under the article: "Convert Your Whole Genome File" to convert my Whole Genome to a 23&Me Version 5 format.

    You will use the WGS Extract program to convert your raw .BAM file to a .txt file with all of the SNP's you can think of plus any version AKA Ancestry V2, 23&Me V3, V,4, V5, ect. Unfortunately, this combined file is ~50mb (about 2 million SNP's), and StrateGene's upload will only allow a maximum of 25mb. 23&Me version 5 is about 600,000 SNP's.

    I originally tried to combine an Ancestry version 2 with a 23&Me version 5, however the combined file size is ~35mb. So I combined an Ancestry V2 with 23&Me V3 file; however many SNP's will be missing. I then took MANY MANY hours to manually check and enter every SNP for every gene using SNPedia searching by gene. I also had to convert some 23&me version 3 ids from "i" to "rs" (what a pain). The combined .txt file came out to ~24mb and the final report was only missing (and I don't know why, but I can manually check them): SULT1A1, GAMT, and SUOX (also note G6PD is missing, but it is noted that G6PD is not checked by strategene).
