What is StrateGene?

StrateGene is a genetic reporting tool that uses AncestryDNA (Version 2 only) OR 23andMe data.

By limiting report data to well-researched SNPs, a qualified health care practitioner is able to formulate a targeted testing and treatment plan – faster.

For the last two years, Dr. Lynch and his research team have analyzed SNP after SNP. In order for the SNP to meet inclusion criteria, it had to meet these standards:
  • The SNP is found in AncestryDNA V2 or 23andMe (current or past chips).
  • The SNP is found in a gene that belongs to a biochemical pathway that is covered by StrateGene.
  • There is a critical mass of published research related to the SNP.
  • The SNP has potential clinical implications as determined by published research.

What genetic tests can be used with StrateGene?

  • AncestryDNA: StrateGene only works with AncestryDNA tests purchased AFTER MAY 2016 (Version 2 only). Not compatible with earlier test data.
  • 23andMe: StrateGene works with all (past and current) 23andMe chips. However, if you purchased 23andMe after August 2017, some SNPs that were available with previous chips will be missing from your report.

Genes Evaluated by StrateGene

The SNPs analyzed and reported by Ancestry are different from those available from the most up-to-date version of 23andMe.

Key differences:

  • You get MAOA, MAOB, and DAO included with Ancestry V2 (not included on 23andMe-based StrateGene reports). These are "Super Seven" Genes!
  • You get a total of 2 more RSID#'s analyzed with Ancestry V2 than with 23andMe.

See below for more detail on which polymorphisms are analyzed by each option.

Should I order 23andMe still?

AncestryDNA test is recommended. If you have not yet run 23andMe, you may still benefit from it if you are ok with not having the above SNPs in your results. It is still a good value for $99. If you want your StrateGene results to include MAOA, MAOB, or DAO, consider AncestryDNA V2 instead.

Is StrateGene right for you?

StrateGene isn’t for everyone. Is it right for you? In this video, Dr. Lynch clearly explains who - and who shouldn’t - use StrateGene.

Outstanding information and value
This is by far the best representation of genomic data analysis that I have seen, and the price is very reasonable. Images are better than words, and this report provides cycle charts personalized with your data. Excellent work. Review by Mark (Posted on 4/7/2017)
Thanks for your incredible work Ben & team
After developing a web of complex issues post-general anesthetic, gene investigation is where I had to go after trying all lifestyle and usual clinical detox protocols. Strategene has by far been the most comprehensive and USABLE tool of all gene 'info processors' I've come across, to work with my doctor and set myself right again. I appreciate your work. It's helping many. Review by Alexx S. (Posted on 4/6/2017)
Perhaps the greatest health tool ever created
This is a legendary product that helped me master my double homozygous COMT and homozygous MTHFR C677T along with a massive amount of methylation genetic defects. This is the best $45 USD I've ever spent along with the $270 CAD I paid for 23andMe. Doctor Ben Lynch is a living god of health, perhaps the greatest doctor the world has ever known. Excellent Information
As a clinician, this type of report helped to direct my protocol and to affirm that the treatments already engaged by the patient were on the right track. Yes, the report is complex as some reviewers have noted. Thus, it is imperative to have a licensed medical practitioner assist in the interpretation of the information and also in the implementation of any interventions. Precision medicine is a game changer. Thank you for this service. Review by David N. (Posted on 3/25/2017)

An overview of what StrateGene is and offers, and what you can expect to learn from it as a customer
The StrateGene report has helped me to zero in on my most important gene SNPs and mutations, and I have a much better understanding of the biochemical pathways in which they are found, and how they impact my overall methylation cycle since ordering this report, which comes in the form of a downloadable PDF file. I am also learning a great deal from being part of the StrateGene Facebook group, as to how my SNPs may affect and interact with my health, and talking with others who may also have similar mutations and health issues and learning what they are doing, and what has worked for them as well. The members of the StrateGene Facebook group can share information about their health and compare their symptoms with one another, while doctors who are specializing in MTHFR and naturopathic and alternative medicine will provide specific feedback to questions with medical information or insights that can further help one to interpret their report, and guide you as to what you can do for your health and how to become more knowledgeable about your genetics. The report is much more than just data or a list of SNPs and mutations. It provides illustrated charts showing how your individual SNPs interact within each of five biochemical pathways of the methylation cycle, and highlighting where each of your genetic mutations will fall within those cycles, as well as defining what each cycle does. These biochemical pathways include the Folate Cycle; the Methionine Cycle; the Transsulferation Pathway; the Biopterin Pathway; and the Histamine Pathway. It also provides information on how other things known as cofactors can influence the interaction of your gene SNPs within those cycles, and what types of substances whether supplemental, food, hormonal, or chemical, can influence your SNPs, by either "speeding them up" or "slowing them down." In addition to the list of main SNPs, there is also a list of bonus SNPs, with an index of resources at the back of the report, so that you can research and learn more about each of your identified SNPs. Participation in the Facebook group is definitely part of the benefit of having a StrateGene report, and the price of this report is very reasonable, given the amount of information it will provide you with and the contact with others who have similar health problems, as well as specialized medical practitioners who can guide you with suggestions. While you will still need to participate yourself in learning about your own report and SNPs, this is definitely a worthwhile tool to put you on a track to better health and insight into your own genetics. It is also advisable to look for a knowledgeable practitioner with whom you can consult in putting together an individualized health plan for yourself and you can do this through Dr. Lynch's website or ask for recommendations, but the report will provide a guide in the form of "a genetic map," that can help you to identify where your problems are, while also putting you on the road to better understanding what your options are, with regard to improving your health and finding the right type of medical help, and learning more about this cutting edge of medical science, as well as individual gene mutations and what types of health issues they are associated with. StrateGene is unlike any other report out there - it is original and will also be improved upon, as more research into SNPs is done, allowing customers to be on top of the latest findings in MTHFR medical research! This is the first time that I have been able to "put it all together" in terms of what I have learned about my own health, and am so glad to have been able to avail myself of this unique tool! Strategene brings order to the chaos
It’s hard to know where to start with the review of strategene, its unique in many ways, as is its creator Dr Ben Lynch and his team. I will start with first what I think personally is one of the more important points to why you should choose strategene. This gene stuff is complex, it can be so easy to chase SNP’s down rabbit holes and get yourself lost and confused and really hinder progress in what you are trying to achieve, be it by focusing on a single gene for all of your troubles, or even ones that have no real clinical studies done on them and the only information out there is nothing more than pure speculation. Because this area of medicine is getting more and more attention, there are people out there speculating and offering advice on particular genes which really don’t have any clinical evidence or trials behind them, this is where things can get dangerous and can have you running off on tangents chasing something that might not even be real. This is where strategene is very different to a lot of the other gene reports out there, Dr Lynch has gone to a great deal of trouble to make sure what you see in your strategene report actually has real clinical data about its significance or potential function/dysfunction, he has a team of researchers pouring over data to make sure what is included and the effects of the genes listed is backed by actual data rather than pure speculation. Why is this key, well when you think about it the answer should be clear, this stuff is already complex, why add a bunch of hypotheticals about a genes effect into the mix, it’s just going to muddy the waters and make things a lot harder than it already is. The best approach is to take a look at what SNP’s you have that do have actual clinical data behind them and start there, and this is where strategene will serve you best. I am fairly new to Dr Lynch, I did a lot of work on myself before finding him and strategene, but something is becoming clear to me about this man, he is trying his very best to bring order to what is starting to become a bit chaotic out there in this new realm of medicine, this in itself is very honourable and a great service to the industry as a whole. Now as for the report itself, its setup in such a way that it will be easy for practitioners to grasp, and for those individuals that have taken a personal interest in their own genetic systems. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a complex for someone completely new to this stuff and if you don't want to learn genetics, you just take this report to your practitioner who does know it. But if you have an interest, its setup in a way where you can learn a lot and laid out in a way that will aid quicker learning in regards to which SNP’s you have effected and the various other things than can impact on those genes. The report comes with pathway planners which are incredibly useful when you know how to read them. When you have for example mthfr, the pathway planners will show you which vitamins, minerals or elements speed up or slow down the genes expression, this can come in very handy when wanting to say speed up an effected gene, you can see things you may wish to avoid that could be slowing it down. Strategene is also an evolving system, the team is constantly working on new pathway planners, research into effects of certain genes not already in the planners or report, again backed by real data and not speculation. While updates to the strategene system will require you to rerun the report at a cost, it would be worth it to gain the knowledge of new findings the team has made and added to the system. Maybe in the future there will be a lifetime membership option for strategene, that would allow you to rerun your report when things get updated, I for one would pay for this kind of service, if not no big deal and would just rerun my data every couple of years. This review is getting a bit long, so will try and finish up. If you have just got your 23andme done and wanting to learn or get help with understanding which genes you have that could be effecting your health and more, this is the report you want, there is a strong ethical foundation to this report, something that can be lacking in this industry right now, give yourself the best chance with strategene. Educating ourselves ON ourselves. The best!!!
Having spent years in the "side-effect" category or "it's complicated" column of healthcare, I began to do my own digging. Two years ago I ordered 23-and-me in hopes of getting to the bottom of my woes from a nutrigenomic standpoint. What I learned VERY QUICKLY is that all of this my newfound knowledge was USELESS (and one could argue, dangerous) without a relevant lens through which to view it. I've ordered ALL of the reports, the ones that are a couple-hundred dollars down to the $5 ones, looking for the nuggets that would help me understand what is going on inside of me. Stratagene is by far my favorite. It's the difference between a dictionary and an encyclopedia. The other reports might have ALL of the words, but they lack context. Stratagene has begun it's efforts with a respectable amount of information on genes that are actionable. I'm not going to sugar coat this - it's still tough stuff, there are no shortcuts. Even culling it down to twenty or so genes, it's still quite a bit of knowledge to digest. But then there's the private facebook community with practitioners and lay people like myself dialoging and learning from each other while we learn together. Not to mention Dr. Ben's weekly live chat... the guy's mission-driven to help us all educate ourselves ON ourselves. If "conventional" medicine relies on the idea that all of our bodies behave somewhat conventionally... without nuance or individualtiy, then Strategene very quickly turns this idea on it's head, by putting the genetic evidence that we are unique individuals at the heart of what needs to be a larger clinical picture. For those of us trying to figure out where to begin on the sea of our own personal genetic information, this report is the best I've experienced. Not because it's the most quantitative report - it's not - rather, it's the most qualitative starting-point. Hats off!!! Review by Adrienne Gray (Posted on 11/20/2016)
Interesting, informative, possibly health-conserving
I've run my data through several tools, and Strategene has produced the clearest and most thorough, understandable, and practical results. I learned that some medications that were being recommended for me are likely to cause problems--which I can now avoid, while investing my energy in testing alternatives. Well worth the investment, many times over. Review by Picky c. (Posted on 11/16/2016)
Invaluable tool
I have waited for this tool for long time as many gene interpretation apps were either very confusing, reporting wrong data or not useful altogether. I have found in the first 10 reports I have used with patients that complements my approach seamlessly. Once I have addressed the basics (life-style, nutrition) I am now able to refine and put all of the patient's info into a contest, enabling me to better refine their environmental choices. Thank you for this tool, long needed by our profession. Review by Alessandro f. (Posted on 11/14/2016)
You get Ben Lynch along with it!
StrateGene is best learning tool I've invested in for my health! It's so much more than a report. Dr. Ben Lynch has created a comprehensive package of tools that go far beyond the actual report. The pathway planners take some time to learn and use, but Ben teaches you how to use them! The absolute best part is that when you purchase StrateGene, you gain access to the StrateGene facebook group where Ben Lynch participates daily. He also makes himself available once a week for an online Q&A session. Ben is so generous with his time and his knowledge, providing information and specific tips that he calls "actionable" information. You can absolutely take action with the information he gives you. When you refer to your own report while you watch his many videos or when reading his posts and comments in the group, you'll begin to understand the mechanisms of how the genetic snps relate to one another and to your conditions, and how to improve your health using these tools. So much healing is possible with StrateGene and Ben Lynch's knowledge and sharing. I feel it has profound potential for worldwide impact. What a great gift and contribution. I'm grateful to Dr. Lynch, and I'm excited for myself, my family and friends, and the millions of others like us. Review by Barbara M. (Posted on 11/11/2016)
The most encompassing source for knowledge
StrataGene is THE place to start. Don't waste time and money chasing isolated bits of information that are difficult to put together in looking holistically at your health. The depth of knowledge that is at your disposal is incredible and the Facebook group is so knowledgeable and supportive. Heartily recommend. Review by Holli (Posted on 11/10/2016)
A must have after getting 23andMe test
This report gives wonderful insight into your genetics in a very easy to understand and precise manner Review by Farhan Qureshi (Posted on 11/10/2016)
Best report for those serious about personal genomics
I've uploaded my 23andMe data to Genetic Genie, MTHFRSupport, NutraHacker, Livewello, Promethease and SelfDecode. By far, I refer to Strategene the most. The report incorporates your SNPs (genetic variations) into diagrams of metabolic pathways. These diagrams are requisite to understanding the complex relationships between genes, metabolites and nutrients. Looking forward to uploading my Genos data when it arrives. Key insights
StrataGene is the perfect tool to help understand one's biochemistry or genetic predispositions. Used in concert with Organic Acids or similar tests, the pathway planners help show what to target to alleviate difficult symptoms. Just two weeks ago I was asking a colleague where he thought I could go to get information on where nutrition intersects with biochemistry. This is the place. Review by Diana J.
