Product Description

Searching for the best multivitamin for kids? Kid's Optimal Multivitamin by Seeking Health is a comprehensive multivitamin and mineral supplement that is specifically designed to meet the nutritional needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Kid’s Optimal Multivitamin is formulated to provide a complete and potent profile of nutrients that will benefit any child.

Kid’s Optimal Multivitamin provides:

  • Bioavailable forms of Vitamins: active forms of folate, B12, and B6 and mixed nutrient sources.
  • Amino acid chelated minerals: easily absorbed and utilized by the body
  • Bioflavonoids and antioxidants
  • Complete corn, dairy, and gluten free nutritional support in vegetarian capsules

This physician-formulated vitamin/mineral supplement contains 28 highly bioavailable essential nutrients in amounts and ratios designed to address nutritional imbalances commonly observed in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Abnormal gastrointestinal function, including chronic diarrhea and malabsorption, affects a significant percentage of individuals with ASD and contributes to nutritional deficiencies.

Kid's Optimal Multivitamin by Seeking Health promotes better health in children with:

  • Essential vitamins, minerals, and trace elements to improve nutritional status: The amounts and ratios of the 28 nutrients in Kid's Optimal Multivitamin can help complement dietary intake and ensure that daily micronutrient needs are met. To help address the needs of children with ASD, Kid's Optimal Multivitamin offers higher potencies for certain nutrients, enhanced antioxidant protection, broader trace element nutrition, and augmented B-vitamin support compared to most other multivitamins for kids.
  • Well-tolerated nutrient forms: Nutrient “families” are used to provide a wider range of nutritional activity. For example, natural mixed carotenoids and vitamin E tocopherols are included to provide diverse antioxidant benefit. Concentrated citrus bioflavonoids are also added to help complement vitamin C activity. Biologically active forms of folate, B12, and B6: Children on the autism spectrum have been shown to have a variety of metabolic abnormalities that include impaired methylation and transsulfuration biochemistry. Significant amounts of the active forms of folate (5-methyltetrahydrofolate) and vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) are used as they are already fully “active” and ready for use by the body. Together these two vitamins can assist proper methylation and reduce the risk of toxic homocysteine build-up. The active coenzyme form of vitamin B6 (known as P-5-P), is also included to support transsulfuration pathways.
  • Bioavailable minerals and trace elements: Many common forms of minerals used in supplements are not easy for the body to absorb. To address this concern, Kid's Optimal Multivitamin contains low molecular weight mineral compounds and other forms that are easily and comfortably digested.
  • Non-allergenic ingredients: Kid's Optimal Multivitamin is free of common allergens including milk/casein, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat/gluten, corn, yeast, and soybeans. No artificial sweeteners, additives, colorings, flavoring, preservatives or salicylates are used.  Allergen note: the vitamin E tocopherols in this product are soy-derived, but the final product is highly purified and contains no detectable soy protein.

Kid’s Optimal Multivitamin is a good choice for those practicing food elimination diets or picky eaters to ensure adequate supply of essential nutrients. Kid's Optimal Multivitamin addresses these inadequacies by supplying balanced amounts of vitamins, minerals, and trace elements in forms that are typically well tolerated by patients with ASD. Active forms of folate, B12, and B6 are included along with naturally-sourced carotenes, vitamin E tocopherols, and vitamin D3 for optimal nutrient absorption and utilization. Iron and copper, often contraindicated in ASD and potentially toxic in excess amounts, are excluded.

This formula complies with Gluten-Free/Casein-Free (GFCF) and Specific Carbohydrate Diets (SCD™). This supplement in encased in two-piece capsules made from purified cellulose, so Kid's Optimal Multivitamin is suitable for vegetarians. This product was made in a GMP and ISO 9000:2008 registered facility.

Questions on Kid's Optimal Multivitamin - 180 Vegetarian Capsules

    • My son won't swallow capsules or eat the chewable multivitamins. How can I give this to him?
    • I had the same problem with my boys. They do not like chewable multivitamins as they all taste terrible. They could not swallow capsules until they were 4 years old. What I find working well is pulling the vegetarian capsule apart and mixing the contents in some organic applesauce mixed with honey and perhaps raisins - or whatever their favorite food is. I recommend taking a spoonful of applesauce, pouring a full capsule of Kid's Optimal Multivitamin on it and then mixing it right on the spoon. You may also open the capsules and pour the contents into their favorite juice. Have them down the juice and then follow with pure juice afterwards. There are no flavorings or artificial flavors in Kid's Optimal Multivitamin so you don't have to hide the bad tasting flavorings - just the vitamins and minerals. Experiment with it. Please do contact us and let us know what worked for your boy!

  • Kids Multi7/20/11 10:24 AM
    • Could this be taken by a month over 3 1/2 yr old.

Can any child take this or is it just for kids with autism???

      Thanks,
    • Yes, Kid's Optimal Multivitamin may be taken by a child aged 3 and above. My son, Theo, is 3 and he takes it. Theo is also a healthy young boy and Kid's Optimal Multivitamin helps keep him that way. Kid's Optimal Multivitamin is great for kids with Autism IN ADDITION to children who are not. The reason Kid's Optimal Multivitamin is so good for children with autism is because of the high quality nutrients. Autistic children have trouble absorbing nutrients and when they are lucky enough to do so, the nutrients have to be in their active forms in order to be used by their body. Most autistic children have biochemical enzymatic defects which do not move a vitamin from its inactive to its active state. Example: Folate. Most folate in a multivitamin is simply folic acid. However, in order to be used by the body, folic acid has to be transformed by two biochemical enzymatic pathways in order to be utilized by the body. Autistic children typically have a defect in MTHFR gene which prevents the activation of folic acid to 5-MTHF. In fact, this genetic defect is so common that 1 in 7 people experiencing depression have this defect in MTHFR gene. So, given the level of biochemical mutations in children these days, I ended up putting the most active forms of nutrients possible in order to get the child to experience life as it should be - or as much as possible. In short, 'normal healthy' children can - and should - use Kid's Optimal Multivitamin. If they cannot swallow capsules, then I recommend opening the capsules and mixing them in some applesauce. That does the trick usually - especially when you add a touch of maple syrup or honey. In health, Dr Ben

  • Adult ADD/ADHD1/7/12 12:58 PM
    • I have an adult son with ADD..............is there an adult supplement formulated for ADD/ADHD??? or would a double dose of this product work!!!!
    • Hello - Great question. Adult ADD/ADHD has multiple causes and they should all be addressed - not just with a multivitamin. A quality multivitamin is definitely a start though. I recommend your son take this Optimal Multivitamin the following way: http://www.seekinghealth.com/optimal-multivitamin-240-vegetarian-capsules.html - 3 capsules with breakfast - 3 capsules with lunch - 2 capsules in the afternoon around 3 pm Make sure he eats some form of protein every 2-3 hours and never go without food longer than this. Eliminate the sugary snacks along with soda. Also consider: - Optimal Fish Oil: 2 capsules with lunch and 2 at dinner: http://www.seekinghealth.com/optimal-fish-oil-60-softgels.html - Vitamin D360: take 3 drops daily anytime of day - or simply take 20 drops ONCE a week: http://www.seekinghealth.com/vitamin-d-drops-liquid-vitamin-d360.html - Sublingual Active B12 with Methylfolate: place 1 tablet under his tongue first thing in the morning upon rising: http://www.seekinghealth.com/sublingual-active-b12-metafolin-seeking-health.html These suggestions are safe and should help. Totally eliminate ADD/ADHD? Doubt it but progress will be seen. Keep me posted and we can adjust as needed. Best Dr Ben

  • 8 yr old with ADHD1/24/12 2:16 PM
    • Hello, my son is 8 with ADHD. He is currently on 20 mg of Vyvanse. Can you recommend the dosage of one of your vitamins? I understand one with B6, B12 and magnesium are good for kids with ADHD. He currently takes fish oil in the morning and does take capsules well. Thank you, Lisa
    • Hi Lisa - Given that your son is 8 yrs old, I recommend you consider giving him 3 capsules of Kid's Optimal Multivitamin in the morning with breakfast and 3 more capsules at lunch or right after school. Ideally, he will take them at school with his lunch. Talk with his teacher about this. We have a chewable calcium/magnesium which has a great taste. Consider providing him one chewable tablet of Cal/Mag Plus D with breakfast and another after dinner. http://www.seekinghealth.com/calcium-magnesium-3d-chewable-tablets-seeking-health.html I also highly recommend you consider providing him 1/2 capsule of L-Tyrosine before breakfast - about 20 minutes prior. Tyrosine is commonly effective for those with ADD/ADHD. Try him on 1/2 capsule for a week and if you don't see much improvement or aggravation, increase to 1 full capsule. Our Tyrosine will be available online later today - likely by 2 PM PST. Please simply search for 'Tyrosine' and it will pop up. Make sure his doctor checks his serum ferritin levels, vitamin D3 and thyroid. Protein is critical. Make sure he eats smaller yet more frequent meals with some form of protein. Best Dr Ben

  • How big are the capsules?2/29/12 3:04 AM
    • How big are the capsules? My autistic son is 10 and has a very poor diet, he has only just started taking tablets but if they're too big I don't want him to be put off taking tablets, it seems all multi vitamins are huge!
      Thanks
      Janine
    • Hello Janine - The capsules are smaller than the standard multivitamin size. My 6 yr old boy swallows them just fine and he does not swallow larger pills easily. Ideally, he will take the Kid's Optimal Multivitamin. If you have difficulty with him swallowing those, then consider the Optimal Multivitamin Chewable: http://www.seekinghealth.com/optimal-multivitamin-60-chewable-tablets-seeking-health.html I highly recommend probiotics for your son also. This is critical for those with autism as the gut/brain connection is direct. Consider giving him 1/8 teaspoon of ProBiota 12 Powder after dinner along with 1 capsule of Saccharomyces Boulardii. ProBiota 12 Powder: http://www.seekinghealth.com/probiotic-powder-supplement-probiota-12-powder.html Saccharomyces Boulardii: http://www.seekinghealth.com/saccharomyces-boulardii-probiotic.html If you can get him off of wheat and dairy - that would be ideal. Udi's makes great gluten free products: http://udisglutenfree.com/ Coconut oil is also fantastic for children - and adults. Cook with it and use it instead of other oils while cooking. Best Dr Ben

  • Child's headaches4/23/12 4:59 PM
    • Dr. Ben,
I am homozygous for C677 mutation so my children both have at least one mutation (correct me if I'm wrong). I am planning to have them tested but because of an insurance lag due to new job I'm waiting about a month. My 15 year old son complains of headaches most days. Is he likely to see an alleviation of his headaches with the multivitamin or is there something else I should be giving him? Thanks, Sara
    • Sara -

You are correct in saying your children have at least 1 copy of the C677T MTHFR mutation because you have 2 copies.

There are many reasons for headaches but MTHFR is linked to them - especially migraines with aura.

The Sublingual Active B12 with Metafolin is one supplement that may benefit him.

Be sure to start him on a low amount.

      Start with:

      1) Active B12 5000 - 1/4 tablet first2) increase this by 1/4 tablet every three days. See how he feels. Once he is at 1/2 tablet and feeling well, stop and switch to the Sublingual Active B12 with Metafolin and give 1/2 tablet once in the AM. After 3 days, If he feels well from this, consider giving him another 1/2 tablet before lunch. Maintain this amount for a week and watch him.3) Add in the Kid's Optimal Multivitamin - 2 capsules with breakfast - only a week after watching him tolerate the other two nutrients first.

Be sure to have him reduce his intake of:- caffeine, sugar, wheat, dairy, MSG, soy and other foods which you/he suspect may be causing headaches.

      Keep me posted.

    • Thanks Dr. Ben,
My husband and I are paleo and our family eats paleo at home but teenagers are hard to convince-even though he admits he feels better when off the wheat. I will try the Active B12 5000 and the subligual B12 w/ Metafolin and see how he feels. thanks again for your response!
    • My pleasure ;)

They'll be a time when he's ready to get off the wheat.

Ask him to keep tabs on his health for 1 to 2 weeks being wheat-free.

Mention that his energy and skin may improve - two things teens must have 100% so they feel good about themselves.

    • Does this product contain any cherry, onion, olive, prune/plum, nectarine, or peach? Or is there a similar product for adults that doesn't have any of the items mentioned? Along with several of the more common food allergens, I just found out that I'm allergic to all these things. I have been taking a different supplement that has no folate, but it contains some of my trigger foods. I try to eat well, but I don't want to give up added supplementation. Please help!

      Elizabeth
    • Hi Elizabeth -

This product does NOT contain any of the ingredient you stated.

This product may be used for adults. Simply take 3 capsules twice daily - with breakfast and lunch. The capsules are small and easy to swallow.

  • How to introduce this vitamin to my 4 yr old 8/14/12 11:03 PM
    • Hi,
I ordered this multi for my tiny four year old who is now 29lbs, and is a very picky eater amd is constipated a lot. He has frequent meltdowns and is a poor sleeper. I received the kids optimal Multi last week and started my 4 yr old son on it yesterday. I dissolved 2 capsules in some apple juice after breakfast and it took it fine. I read that the total number of capsules to be taken is 6 per day, but I wanted to start him off gradually. Today, I gave him 2 capsules dissolved after breakfast and then another 2 dissolved in juice ( after a meal) around 6pm. His bowel movement has been pretty frequent both days but today, he seemed over stimulated and was extremely over active, to the point of staying awake till 1am! I am wondering does it have to do with the vitamin? Also, considering his weight and size, should he be consuming a total number of 6 capsules a day?

      Thanks in advance!
    • Hello -

Given that your child is sensitive, I would start him with only 1 capsule in the AM with breakfast and 1 capsule with lunch. If he still appears overly stimulated, reduce it to just 1 capsule in the morning with breakfast.

I also recommend ProBiota 12 Powder to support his digestion. You may notice an improvement in his constipation. Consider giving him 1/8th a teaspoon of ProBiota 12 Powder after dinner.

You may find improvement through magnesium also. Consider giving him 1 capsule of Optimal Magnesium in the AM along with 1 capsule before bed.

Magnesium is often very useful for those with sleeping issues and constipation - and mood imbalances.

  • niacin in multivitamin8/27/12 8:03 AM
    • Hi,
I have been giving my 8 year old daughter the Kids Optimal Multivitamin. She is compound heterozygous MTHFR. I have been a little concerned about the amount of niacin in the vitamin. Would that amount of niacin use up her Sam-e and leave her even more undermethylated? Thanks for your time!
      Monica
    • Monica -

Niacin is a very useful nutrient.

Methylation is also a balancing act.

One cannot have too much or too little methylation.

As long as you are supporting her methylation via B vitamins, sulfur nutrients, healthy food and healthy lifestyle/environment, the niacin is a very welcome addition to the children's multivitamin - and any multivitamin.

The amount of methylfolate and methylcobalamin is also important.

I recommend you consider adding Active B12 Lozenge with Metafolin to her supplementation. Start with 1/4 tablet upon waking - under the tongue. This will further support her methylation. Use as directed by her doctor - and start low and work up to what appears to be her ideal amount.

      Dr Lynch
