Product Description

Struggling with estrogen dominance, obesity, or impaired liver function? High levels of estrogen metabolites are a contributing factor in many health conditions, and exposure to xenoestrogens found in plastic as well as changes in hormone production during aging can cause unbalanced hormone levels. DIM + I3C contains indoles and other compounds found in cruciferous vegetables that have shown promise in research for reducing levels of estrogen metabolites which negatively affect our health.

Some conditions where estrogen levels may be a factor:

  • Endometriosis
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Severe menstrual cramps
  • Obesity1
  • Breast, prostate, and other cancers2

DIM + I3C by Seeking Health offers a unique formula for helping your body lower estrogen levels naturally. DIM (diindolylmethane), a metabolic byproduct of I3C (indole-3-carbinol), a compound found in broccoli, cabbage and other vegetables in the Brassicacae family, is combined with I3C and other indole related compounds to provide a wide range of nutritional support for processing estrogen metabolites, such as 16-alpha hydroxy-estrone. Indole compounds favorably influence steroid hormone metabolism and help rebalance estrogen in favor of 2-hydroxyestrone, a protective estrogen metabolite. The active ingredients in DIM + I3C by Seeking Health also stimulate liver detoxification enzymes, inhibit DNA damage, and regulate cell cycle progression.

Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) readily breaks down in the presence of stomach acid into diindolylmethane (DIM). Although diindolylmethane has been claimed to be the preferred form for dietary supplementation, the available published evidence does not adequately support this conclusion. Data in direct support of taking DIM alone is suggestive but still inconclusive. Rather, it appears that a wide spectrum of indoles such as those found in DIM + I3C is more beneficial.

    • I have a friend who has severe Endometriosis, her Dr. has put her on the Birth control shot and a daily regimen of birth control pills to stop her menstrual cycle. Will this product reverse or reduce the severity and her dependence on "Medical" solutions?
      -Ken
    • Hi Ken - You are right that birth control is definitely not the answer here. It is simply 'hiding' the problem of her excess estrogen production. Getting her estrogen balanced naturally is needed and can be done quite easily. DIM + I3C should definitely help reduce high estrogen levels which are a causative factor in endometriosis. One needs to ask why the levels of estrogen are elevated. The issue with endometriosis is that there is no one single cause and, in order for it to be treated properly and long term, one needs to approach it from numerous angles. Only in this manner will endometriosis be eradicated naturally and for long term. The side benefits of a multifaceted approach are also significant: lower risk of fibroids, lower risk of cancer, lower risk of menstrual pains, improved fertility, reduced cardiovascular risk to name a few. Are her estrogen levels elevated because: - her liver is not functioning well? - low levels of healthy bacteria in her digestive system? - chemical exposures especially to plastics? - overweight? - chronic inflammation? She will likely need to improve her liver function, increase beneficial bacteria in her digestive system; begin taking or increasing her intake of essential fatty acids; reduce exposure to plastics by eating, drinking and cooking out of glass or stainless steel; and/or lose weight if she needs to do so. I must add that people who are also thin can easily get endometriosis. The liver support I recommend is Liver Chi by Chi's Enterprise Take as directed on the label with food. Liver Chi will help breakdown excess hormones and get them processed so they can be removed from the body. http://www.healthegoods.com/liver-chi-120-capsules-chis-enterprise.html Essential Fatty acid support I recommend is Finest Pure Fish Oil by Pharmax. Consider taking 2 teaspoons with a meal twice a day. Low essential fatty acids cause the body to be chronically inflammed and susceptible to cellular damage and proliferation. Taking 2 teaspoons twice a day of Finest Pure Fish Oil will help quench this inflammation and stabilize membranes. http://www.healthegoods.com/brands/pharmax.html Beneficial bacteria help breakdown excess hormones and get them out of the body. If her levels are low, her levels of hormones will increase. Consider taking 2 capsules of ProBiota 12 by Seeking Health after dinner daily. Have her recycle all her plastic cooking, eating and drinking products and switch to glass or stainless steel kitchen products. Stainless steel water bottles are also a healthy alternative especially when filled with filtered water. Taking a multivitamin that combines additional liver support and hormone processing is warranted here. Opti-Gyn is highly effective at reducing excessive hormones and balancing the menstrual cycle. I recommend taking 4 tablets in the AM with breakfast and 4 tablets at lunch. Take as directed on the label as the directions are very specific. Follow exactly. http://www.healthegoods.com/opti-gyn-112-tablets-by-eclectic-institute.html For pain, have her apply Castor Oil to the area of pain, apply a hot damp towel over the castor oil, and then let it remain warm for 20 minutes. Apply daily. Castor oil covered with a damp hot towel is highly effective at reducing inflammation and pain - at the same time increasing circulation. • DIM & adenomyosis8/23/12 2:13 PM
    • Hello: I was diagnosised with adenomyosis over 3 years ago - I suffer from very bad back pain especially just before & beginning of my menstrual cycle. I had read that DIM herb may be helpful for my situation. Is this true & if so, what dosage, when to take (w/ or w/out food) & other usage details would be most welcome.

      Frances
    • Hi Frances -

DIM + I3C is very useful in supporting healthy estrogen levels. If you have high estrogen levels, which it is very likely due to adenomyosis, DIM + I3C is likely a useful supplement for you.

Use as directed by your doctor or as directed on the label.

I recommend you have your doctor check your female hormone levels as they determine best.

To also help relieve pain, Optimal Vitamin E and Magnesium Plus are two potentially useful additions to support healthy menses.

I would also add in Optimal Primrose Oil - as directed on the label.

Supporting your liver is important as well. Consider eating foods such as beets, carrots, onions, garlic, artichokes. A healthy liver is able to process estrogens better.

Using 1 capsule of Liver Nutrients after dinner is also supportive of liver function.

Castor Oil packs over your liver and uterus (entire abdominal area) may also prove beneficial.

  • Fibroid Uterus2/10/13 4:01 PM
    • Hello there,

I was told that DIM and Indole-3-carbinol can be helpful in regulating my estrogen dominance and also make the fibroids shrink, and possibly even dissapear completely. Is this true?
    • Hello -

Yes - this is true. ;)

I do recommend evaluating why your estrogen levels are dominating and see if you can remove those causes.

DIM + I3C is excellent at helping metabolize estrogens; however, I also encourage people to find out why they are so.

Looking at environmental chemicals is a big one - as is plastic elimination from your life.

Liver support as are potent multistrain probiotics are also critical. Both the liver and beneficial bacteria in our digestive tract metabolize estrogens.

      Dr Lynch

    • I have positive Breast Cancer is this product good for anti estrogen and does it interfere with Letrozole thanks
    • Hello -

DIM + I3C contains two nutrients which are useful for breaking down estrogens.

I am not sure if it interferes with Letrozole. Please consult with your doctor if you can take DIM + I3C.

Be sure to also test your vitamin D and iodine levels. Both vitamin D and iodine are commonly low in those with breast cancer.

I also recommend you consider testing for COMT and MTHFR. These are common genetic mutations which also may increase the risk of breast cancer and may also affect treatments/medications.

Avoid the exposures to plastic and BPA as much as possible.

I recommend considering working with an oncologist and a functional medicine physician and/or naturopathic physician.

      In health,

      Dr Lynch
