Dirty Genes™ - MTHFR Support

Your MTHFR gene is known as the ‘Methylation Master.’ The role of your MTHFR gene is to produce L-methylfolate, also known as L-5-MTHF.  L-methylfolate is essential to supporting an important process called methylation. If your MTHFR gene is dirty, so is your methylation. Dirty methylation is associated with high blood pressure, high histamine, gallbladder stagnation, high homocysteine, and imbalanced neurotransmitters.*

To help support MTHFR, limit intake of folic acid, eat leafy greens, organ meats, and reduce mental and physical stressors.

A Dirty MTHFR may work better with additional Riboflavin as this vitamin is what the MTHFR gene needs in order to make L-methylfolate. If riboflavin levels are low, then the MTHFR gene will not function well. Starting with additional Riboflavin is a great first step.*

However, Riboflavin may not be the only thing you need. Riboflavin will not help the MTHFR gene if overall folate levels are low. Those with low folate levels may need Folinic Acid or L-methylfolate via supplementation. When taking any type of folate, be sure you are also using vitamin B12 if you’re vitamin B12 deficient. Here’s why: if you’re low in vitamin B12 and taking only folate, you won’t receive any benefit because folates need vitamin B12 in order to support methylation. To support this relationship, consider our best-selling Active B12 with L-5-MTHF Lozenges. These lozenges provide 800 mcg (1360 mcg DFE) of L-methylfolate along with two active forms of vitamin B12 - as methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin - in an easy-to deliver lozenge.*

If your vitamin B12 levels are fine, you may consider using L-methylfolate by itself for additional MTHFR support. When you’re first trying L-methylfolate, consider using L-methylfolate lozenges so you can regulate how much L-methylfolate you’re getting. With a lozenge, you have the option of taking it out based how you feel. L-methylfolate delivered in capsules are great for those who are familiar with how much they need.*

If you find that L-methylfolate is too strong for you, consider using Folinic Acid. Folinic Acid may still support a Dirty MTHFR if your Riboflavin levels are sufficient. If you need additional vitamin B12 along with folate, consider our Hydroxo B12 with Folinic Acid Lozenges. If you only need additional folate, you may choose between Folinic Acid capsules or lozenges.

Before using any type of folate, especially L-methylfolate, support all your genes with Optimal Electrolyte and ProBiota HistaminX.*

Reading Dirty Genes and following the Soak and Scrub Method is the most thorough way to clean your MTHFR gene. Definitely read the MTHFR and GST/GPX chapters because methylation and glutathione are interconnected. Supplements are simply a way to Spot Clean your MTHFR.
