HomocysteX Plus

  • Supports healthy methylation & homocysteine levels
  • Powerful heart health support
  • Supports healthy cognition & brain function

Who Needs HomocysteX Plus

Did your blood test results come back with high levels of homocysteine? Do you want to support healthy blood pressure and heart health? If so, your methylation cycle may need support.

HomocysteX Plus provides the 5 nutrients your body requires for optimal methylation. This unique formula supports the body’s normal homocysteine breakdown for heart health support.

HomocysteX Plus by Seeking Health supplies bioactive forms of four essential B vitamins along with betaine (TMG). These nutrients synergistically support healthy methylation and homocysteine metabolism.

Methylation is a critical process in your body. It is responsible for genetic expression, breaking down homocysteine, and many more vital biochemical functions.

Over 50% of the population has an MTHFR genetic mutation. This can slow down methylation in your body. A slowed methylation cycle can lead to elevated homocysteine levels. That’s because proper methylation is required to break down and clear homocysteine.

Several studies link high homocysteine levels with an increased risk of heart and blood flow problems. Amongst other ways, homocysteine increases cardiovascular risk by damaging the lining of the arteries, which may promote excessive blood clotting.

Elevated homocysteine levels have also been associated with cognitive and brain issues. Proper neurotransmitter metabolism relies on maintaining optimal methylation function as well.

Homocysteine breakdown requires the enzymes in your methylation pathway to be working properly. These enzymes need specific nutrients as “coenzymes” to make them run effectively.

HomocysteX Plus supplies the nutrient coenzymes needed by your methylation enzymes. These bioactive forms (listed in brackets) are efficiently utilized and well-tolerated by the body.

  • Folate (L-5-methylfolate)
  • Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin & adenosylcobalamin)
  • Vitamin B6 (P-5-P)
  • Vitamin B2 (riboflavin; R-5-P)
  • Betaine (TMG)

These nutrients supply the necessary methyl groups and coenzymes to support your entire methylation pathway. By supporting methylation, you are also aiding the body’s natural breakdown of homocysteine.

HomocysteX Plus is a targeted heart health supplement designed by methylation expert Dr. Ben Lynch, ND. The nutrients included are in amounts and forms that are efficiently utilized and well-tolerated by the body.

Got MTHFR? Want to support healthy homocysteine levels? Need better methylation support? Talk to your doctor about including HomocysteX Plus in your daily healthcare routine.

Keeping my homocysteine in check!

I have a dirty MTHFR so I take HomocysteX Plus to help keep it clean. Just had my homocysteine labs done and I am in the optimal range. Thank you Seeking Health! ~Michelle L.

Key Ingredients In HomocysteX Plus

  • Folate (L-methylfolate or 5-MTHF): Superior form of folate. Can readily donate its methyl groups to break down homocysteine and support your entire methylation cycle. 5-MTHF is the preferred form of folate in the human body and is far superior to folic acid.
  • Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin & adenosylcobalamin): Act as cofactors to support homocysteine regulation. B12 accepts a methyl group from 5-MTHF to aid the conversion of homocysteine into the beneficial amino acid methionine.
  • R-5-P (riboflavin 5’-phosphate): The active form of vitamin B2 (riboflavin). R-5-P is a coenzyme for the MTRR and MTHFR enzymes that support homocysteine conversion into beneficial methionine. Riboflavin also assists in the process of releasing energy from carbohydrates.
  • P-5-P (pyridoxal 5’-phosphate): The active, readily available coenzyme form of vitamin B6. P-5-P is required by over 140 enzyme reactions in the body. It is a coenzyme for the CBS and CTH enzymes that convert homocysteine into the amino acid cysteine. Cysteine can then be used to make glutathione, taurine, and sulfate–all important compounds utilized in detoxification pathways.
  • Betaine (TMG): Also known as trimethylglycine or TMG. Betaine is a powerful and important methyl donor in the body, especially for those with MTHFR polymorphisms. Betaine acts as a coenzyme to increase BHMT enzyme activity. Betaine-homocysteine methyltransferase (BHMT) is an enzyme that converts homocysteine into the beneficial amino acid methionine, particularly in liver cells.

Why HomocysteX Plus Works

In 1969, Dr. Kilmer McCully suggested that elevated homocysteine levels (hyperhomocysteinemia) were associated with heart issues. Since then, thousands of studies have confirmed his theory of homocysteine as a cardiovascular risk factor. As a result, many practitioners recognize the importance of keeping levels of homocysteine in a healthy range. Normal homocysteine levels require a functioning methylation cycle, which depends on the activity of multiple enzymes.

The body maintains healthy homocysteine levels by regulating the activity of a number of enzymes. These enzymes are located in your methylation cycle. They collectively work to convert homocysteine into either methionine or cysteine, which are beneficial amino acids.

The human body carries out methylation reactions in every single cell. The methylation cycle begins with the amino acid methionine. Via the MAT1A enzyme, methionine is converted into SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine). Once SAMe donates its methyl group to make creatine, phosphatidylcholine (PC), melatonin, or hundreds of other compounds, it becomes homocysteine. If the cycle slows down here, homocysteine levels can build up and become problematic.

It is essential to keep the methylation cycle moving to maintain healthy homocysteine levels. The most critical enzymes involved in homocysteine metabolism include:

  • CBS (Cystathionine Beta Synthase): Converts homocysteine into cystathionine, and then cysteine. About half of this cysteine is used to make glutathione, the body’s most important antioxidant compound. Both the CBS enzyme and the following CTH enzyme need adequate levels of vitamin B6 in the form of pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (P-5-P) to function.

  • BHMT (Betaine Homocysteine Methyl Transferase): This enzyme facilitates the donation of a methyl group from trimethylglycine (TMG) to homocysteine to recycle it into methionine.

  • MTHFR (MethyleneTetraHydroFolate Reductase): This is the final enzyme that carries out the manufacturing of 5-MTHF. A form of folate called 5-Methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) first donates a methyl group to cobalamin (B12) to make methylcobalamin. Then, methylcobalamin donates the methyl group to homocysteine, converting it into harmless methionine.

  • Unfortunately, the manufacturing of 5-MTHF is not easy. In addition, over 50% of the general population has an MTHFR gene mutation slowing down their MTHFR enzyme. Thus, taking only L-5-methylfolate is often insufficient for those with MTHFR mutations. Riboflavin in the form of riboflavin 5’-phosphate (R-5-P) is needed as a coenzyme for the MTHFR enzyme to work. If you have a gene mutation in this enzyme, having adequate amounts of R-5-P becomes increasingly important.

  • MTR (Methionine Synthase): This is the last enzyme in the methylation cycle. It accepts the methyl group from 5-MTHF and adds it back to homocysteine to synthesize methionine. This provides the body with more methionine to start the methylation cycle all over again.

Each of these enzymes relies on specific nutrients as coenzymes. These coenzymes act like a key to ignite methylation enzymes to work and run at an optimal pace. It is well known that deficiency can slow the function of these enzymes. With slower enzyme function, homocysteine levels may rise.

Most research focuses on vitamin B12 and folate (5-MTHF) deficiencies in relation to elevated homocysteine levels. However, riboflavin (R-5-P), betaine (TMG), and vitamin B6 (P-5-P) play equally important roles in maintaining healthy homocysteine levels.

Did your doctor say you have high homocysteine? This is a sign of poor methionine recycling. If you want to support proper methylation recycling, you may want to look at HomocysteX Plus or Methylate. Each was designed to support healthy homocysteine levels.

If you’re looking to support healthy homocysteine levels and optimal methylation, look no further than HomocysteX Plus by Seeking Health.
