L-Methylfolate Supplements

L-Methylfolate Supplements

L-methylfolate is your body's most plentiful form of folate. Over 80% of the folate in your body should consist of L-methylfolate. The issue is most people are using the physiologically inactive form of folate called folic acid. Are you? In order for folic acid to become L-methylfolate, folic acid has to be processed by a number of genes. A large percent of the population, and perhaps you, have a reduced ability to genetically transform folic acid into L-methylfolate. Your MTHFR gene may have a common variation which slows your ability to produce L-methylfolate. You likely know this already. But did you know that there are three other very important folate genes necessary to help your body convert folic acid into L-methylfolate? These other genes are MTHFD1, DHFR and SLC19a1. If you have any of these genes working more slowly, you may have lower L-methylfolate levels in your blood – especially if you’re not consuming leafy greens or liver.

Here’s the good news! Providing your body the most desired form of folate may support healthy mood, energy, concentration and general health.*

At Seeking Health, we offer L-methylfolate supplements in various forms that are easy to take and well-absorbed. L-methylfolate lozenges are a great way to deliver folate easily.* You may also cut the lozenges into smaller amounts if you like. Our L-methylfolate capsules are small, easy to swallow and contain 800 mcg per serving (1360 mcg DFE). A customer favorite is the Active B12 with L-5-MTHF.

In order for L-methylfolate to properly work, one must have sufficient vitamin B12, specifically in the form of methylcobalamin. This is because once L-methylfolate is absorbed, it needs methylcobalamin to function. If one takes a L-methylfolate supplement and they have insufficient methylcobalamin, benefit may not be experienced.* This is likely why our Active B12 with L-5-MTHF is one of our top selling L-methylfolate supplements.

When using L-methylfolate supplements, it’s best to be aware of how you are feeling before you take them. They are very effective. If your mood is low and you find your healthy mood supported while using L-methylfolate, that’s great! If you find your mood is becoming more uneasy at the moment after taking L-Methylfolate, you may need to take it less often or in less amounts. Talk with your healthcare professional about this.*
