Why I Formulated This

I've watched patients spend hundreds of dollars a month on serums, creams, and procedures for their skin while almost completely ignoring what they're feeding their skin from the inside.

Think of your skin in two layers. Topicals work on the outer surface. But collagen, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid live in the deeper layer underneath, and no cream reaches there. That layer has to be fed from the inside.

Most collagen products are built on commodity ingredients with no clinical trials behind them. I wanted every ingredient in this formula studied at the dose we use, in published peer-reviewed research. That is the standard I held myself to.

Optimal Collagen is built around two trademarked bioactive collagen peptides: BODYBALANCE® and VERISOL®. Both collagen peptides are backed by independent randomized controlled trials. These aren't commodity collagens. Each is derived through a specific patented enzymatic hydrolysis process that produces defined peptide sequences. Those sequences act as biological signals to fibroblasts, prompting them to upregulate their own production of collagen, elastin, and extracellular matrix proteins. That's a fundamentally different mechanism than adding protein. It's targeted biological signaling.

I then added three supporting ingredients at clinically studied doses: hyaluronic acid at 120 mg, CERAMOSIDES phytoceramides at 30 mg, and vitamin C at 100 mg. Each has published human trial data. Together, all five work as a coordinated system to support skin structure, hydration, and barrier function.

There is also a body composition dimension I want to be direct about. BODYBALANCE® has clinical evidence for supporting body composition alongside resistance training. Most people don't connect skin and body composition, but they share the same connective tissue matrix. The collagen-rich scaffold that defines skin structure is the same scaffold that surrounds and supports muscle tissue. Supporting the connective tissue matrix benefits both.

Optimal Collagen was formulated for those who want their skin and their body to reflect the effort they put in. It supports both, in the same scoop.

How to Use It

Mix one scoop with 8-12 oz of cold water or a smoothie. If you prefer hot coffee or tea, let it cool to drinking temperature first before mixing. The collagen peptides are heat-stable, but the vitamin C in this formula is not. A few minutes off the boil is all it takes.

Take it daily. Consistency is the most important variable for a supplement that requires weeks of daily use to show results. For body composition support, take it within an hour after resistance training, consistent with the study protocols for BODYBALANCE®.

The Research Behind the Ingredients

Every ingredient in this formula was studied over a specific time period at a specific dose. Here is what the published research found and when.

Timeframe What the Research Found Ingredient
Day 15 Skin hydration and transepidermal water loss noticeably supported vs. placebo CERAMOSIDES 30 mg
Week 4 Eye wrinkle volume visibly lower vs. placebo¹ VERISOL® 2.5 g
Week 4-8 Skin surface texture and hydration visibly enhanced vs. placebo² Hyaluronic Acid 120 mg
Week 8 Wrinkle volume continued to decline; procollagen I and elastin levels meaningfully elevated vs. placebo³ VERISOL® 2.5 g
Week 8-12 Skin hydration, wrinkle depth, and elasticity meaningfully supported vs. placebo² Hyaluronic Acid 120 mg
Week 12 Fat-free mass meaningfully higher and body composition noticeably better vs. placebo (with resistance training) BODYBALANCE® 15 g

Results build over time. The 12-week mark is where the full picture comes together. Give it that long before evaluating.

Results shown reflect published clinical studies on individual ingredients at the doses included in this formula. These studies were not conducted on this finished product.

I designed Optimal Collagen for a specific kind of person. Read through these situations and see if you recognize yourself. If you do, this is likely a strong fit. If you don't, I'd rather you find something that's actually right for you.

You take care of your skin but haven't been supplementing for it

You moisturize, you protect it from the sun, you've tried a serum or two. But you've never consistently given your skin what it needs at the nutritional level: the collagen peptides, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid that support what your skin cells are actually trying to do. You're working hard on the outside without supporting the inside.

Optimal Collagen is built around five clinically studied ingredients at the doses used in published research. VERISOL® at 2.5 g has been shown to support healthy wrinkle volume, procollagen I, and elastin levels. CERAMOSIDES at 30 mg has been shown to support skin hydration and barrier function within two weeks. Together, they address what topical products alone cannot reach.¹

You've noticed your skin doesn't hold moisture the way it used to

You're drinking enough water, but your skin feels drier. It looks dull more often. The skin around your eyes and mouth has a different quality than it did five years ago. This is largely a ceramide and hyaluronic acid story. Ceramide content in the skin drops with age, reducing the barrier's ability to retain water. Hyaluronic acid in the dermis, which holds water in the extracellular matrix, also declines.

The CERAMOSIDES in this formula is a clinically tested gluten-free, wheat-derived phytoceramide complex. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study at the 30 mg dose used here, supplementation significantly supported skin hydration and transepidermal water loss within 15 days. The 120 mg of hyaluronic acid matches the dose used in a published 12-week RCT showing significant benefits in skin hydration, wrinkle assessment, and elasticity.²

You're in perimenopause or post-menopause and your skin has visibly changed

Estrogen decline can accelerate collagen loss, ceramide depletion, and hyaluronic acid reduction in the dermis simultaneously. The changes you're seeing are not cosmetic failures. They reflect what's happening in the deeper layers of your skin. Topical products can’t fully address what's happening at the structural level because the deeper layers of skin should be supported from the inside.

Optimal Collagen provides both the structural building blocks and the lipid barrier support that decline with estrogen reduction. Vitamin C serves as a required cofactor for prolyl and lysyl hydroxylase, the enzymes that stabilize the collagen triple helix. Without adequate vitamin C, collagen peptides cannot be properly assembled regardless of how much you take.³

You're active and want to support body composition alongside your skin

You work out regularly and you're conscious of body composition, not just weight. BODYBALANCE® is not a generic collagen protein. It's a specific bioactive peptide with clinical studies showing that at 15 g per day combined with resistance training, it supports statistically significant changes in fat-free mass and body composition compared to placebo. The proposed mechanism involves collagen peptides acting as biological signals that support connective tissue and muscle protein synthesis.

In an RCT at the University of Freiburg, middle-aged untrained men who supplemented with 15 g of BODYBALANCE® daily during a 12-week resistance training program achieved significantly greater benefits to fat-free mass and body composition than those on placebo. If you're lifting and want a collagen product that also supports body composition, this is the formula for it.

You're concerned about joint comfort and connective tissue alongside skin

Hyaluronic acid is the primary lubricating molecule in synovial fluid. It's also abundant in the extracellular matrix surrounding tendons and ligaments. BODYBALANCE® collagen peptides act on connective tissue beyond skin, providing amino acid precursors for joint cartilage and tendon matrix maintenance. This formula isn't specifically positioned as a joint product, but the hyaluronic acid and BODYBALANCE® peptides address joint connective tissue through the same mechanisms they address skin.

If you're active and want a single formula that supports both healthy skin structure and joint connective tissue from the inside, Optimal Collagen covers both. The collagen and hyaluronic acid literature both show benefits across skin and joint tissue with consistent daily use.

This product is probably NOT right for you if...

You're looking for a pure joint support formula. Optimal Collagen is skin-forward. For targeted joint support, consider adding a dedicated joint formula such as Joint Nutrients.

You're expecting results without consistent daily use. Clinical outcomes in every study on these ingredients required 8-12 weeks of daily supplementation.

You have a wheat allergy (not gluten sensitivity). CERAMOSIDES is processed to be gluten-free but is wheat-derived. Consult your practitioner if you have a true wheat allergy.
